Amoxicillin: instructions for use

Dosage form

The preparation can be produced either in the form of capsules or in the form of granules necessary for the preparation of the suspension. Each of the dosage forms contains the same amount of antibiotic "amoxicillin". Instructions for use apply to both forms.

Ingredients: amoxicillin - fifty milligrams (in one capsule or in five milliliters of the finished suspension).

Pharmacological action of the drug "Amoxicillin "

Instruction for the use of the drug says that it is an antibiotic belonging to the group of semisynthetic penicillins. The drug has a wide range of bactericidal effects.

To this drug, microorganisms that are able to synthesize penicillinase independently are resistant.

Amoxicillin, the use of which together with metronidazole may show increased activity against the Helicobacter pylori bacteria. Perhaps this is due to the fact that amoxicillin reduces the development of resistance of the bacterium to metronidazole.

Indications for the beginning of the antibiotic "Amoxicillin"

The instructions for use allow the drug to be taken in the form of monotherapy or in association with other medicinal therapies for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by microorganisms, such as:

  • pneumonia,

  • bronchitis,

  • Pyelonephritis,

  • angina,

  • urethritis,

  • Gynecological infections,

  • Infection of the digestive tract,

  • Listeriosis,

  • gonorrhea,

  • leptospirosis.

In addition, the drug along with metronidazole can be used to treat the following diseases associated with Helicobacter pylori:

  • Exacerbation of chronic gastritis,

  • Exacerbation of chronic gastric ulcer,

  • Exacerbation of chronic ulcerative bowel disease, more precisely, duodenal ulcer.

Side effects of the antibiotic "Amoxicillin"

Instructions for use indicate the following side effects that can occur in different body systems:

- allergic reactions:

- erythema,

- hives,

- rhinitis,

- Quincke's edema,

- conjunctivitis,

- pain in the joints,

- fever,

- eosinophilia,

- anaphylactic shock.

The side effect that arises from the chemotherapeutic action is the development of superinfection (this is especially true for patients with reduced resistance).

With prolonged use of sufficiently high doses of the drug, the following side effects may occur:

- ataxia,

- dizziness,

- Depression,

Confusion of consciousness,

- convulsions,

Peripheral neuropathies.

When used together with metronidazole, vomiting, nausea, anorexia, constipation, diarrhea, interstitial nephritis may occur . Glossitis, epigastric pain, stomatitis, pseudomembranous colitis, hepatitis, violation of hemopoiesis and allergic reactions are also possible.

Contraindications to taking the drug "Amoxicillin"

Annotation to a medicinal preparation says that contra-indications include a number of diseases and syndromes, in particular:

- severe and painful infections of the digestive tract, which are accompanied by vomiting or diarrhea,

- Infectious mononucleosis,

- SARS,

- lymphocytic leukemia,

- bronchial asthma,

- sensitivity to penicillins,

Contraindications to the use of the drug together with metronidazole: lymphocytic leukemia, hemopoiesis, nervous system diseases , infectious mononucleosis, sensitivity to nitroimidazolate.

Drug Interactions

During the use of the drug, it is necessary to take with caution oral contraceptives, because the drug reduces their effectiveness.

If you take amoxicillin together with drugs that form PABA in the process of metabolism, then amoxicillin significantly reduces their effectiveness.

Absorption of amoxicillin reduces antacids, laxatives, glucosamines, aminoglycosides, and ascorbic acid, on the contrary, increases.
