Friedrich Gorenstein: Biography

The future writer was born on March 18, 1932 in Kiev. Father Friedrich, professor of political economy, was arrested in 1935. And two years later he was shot. Since then, Frederick began to bear the name of his mother - Felix Prilutsky. Nevertheless, later the writer regained his surname and original name. During the Great Patriotic War, Friedrich's mother, who worked as the director of the house for young offenders, went with her son to evacuation from Berdichev. However, the woman could not survive the trip and died on the road near the city of Orenburg. After the death of his mother, Friedrich was placed in an orphanage. After the war, the boy leaves the orphanage and lives with his sisters Zlota and Rahila in his native Berdychiv.

For several years, Gorenstein Friedrich Naumovich works as a laborer. The young writer finishes Dnepropetrovsk Mining Institute and since 1961 works as an engineer. Later Friedrich moved to Moscow, where he studied at the Higher Scenario Courses. During this time, Gorenstein wrote scripts for seventeen films. Nevertheless, only five of them were implemented.

In addition, Frederick wrote for magazines. His works did not want to publish, so most of the creativity went into the box. In the USSR was published only one story writer "House with a turret." It happened in 1964 in the magazine "Youth". Thanks to one single publication, Friedrich made a name and attracted attention.

Creativity Gorenstein very highly appreciated the people to whom he gave to read their unpublished works. It was a rather narrow circle of people, which included filmmakers (Andrei Konchalovsky, Andrei Tarkovsky), critics (Benedikt Sarnov, Lazar Lazarev, Anna Berzer), writers (Yuri Trifonov) and other intellectual elite.

Emigration

Since 1978, Friedrich Gorenstein is published abroad. Moreover, the writer decided to emigrate from the Soviet Union. Since 1980, Gorenstein has lived in Austria, in the city of Vienna. After a certain time, the writer moves to West Berlin, as he was an applicant for a creative scholarship from the German Exchange Service DAAD. Thus, Friedrich became the first Russian writer to receive such a prestigious scholarship.

Gorenstein's works are actively published in the New York "Word" and various emigrant journals like Grani, "Syntax," "Continent," etc. After 1992, when the three-volume Gorenstein was published in Moscow, the writer was completely forgotten and stopped publishing his books. Ignored Friedrich and literary critics. Lasted like the whole ten years. Nevertheless, Gorenstein's works continued to be published abroad. Thus, in the 90 years in France was released 8 books of the writer, in Germany - 11.

Death

Gorenstein Friedrich Naumovich died on March 2, 2002 in Berlin. The cause of death was a serious illness, from which a talented writer struggled for several years. Friedrich did not live just a few days before his 70th birthday. Gorenstein was buried in Weissensee - one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries.

Works

Friedrich Gorenstein for his life wrote quite a lot of works that are recognized by world classics. However, the most famous for him brought a novel called "Place", which was released in 1976. The book consists of three parts and an epilogue. All events unfold in Russia in the 1950s, when Stalin died and Khrushchev came to power.

The narration is conducted on behalf of a young man named Gosh Tsvibyshev - an orphan and son of a repressed. The author tries to portray the cruelty of the communist regime, with which the main character has collided. The novel traces some autobiographical motives.

Friedrich Gorenstein has established himself as a good playwright. For example, a play called "Detowition" (1985), which talked about Peter the Great and the young Tsarevich Alexei, was staged in Russia. For many years this work has not depended on the scenes of the famous Moscow theaters. The play received a lot of flattering reviews and reviews from critics.
