World Health Days. Events for the World Health Day

The trend of taking care of health and longevity in the last decade has proved to be one of the most notable and popular. One of the reasons for this was the fashion for the spiritual development of man, the rejection of an exclusively consumer attitude to the environment and, of course, the "blurring" of borders between countries and continents. That is why the idea to hold World Health Days belongs to the international organization WHO (World Health Organization).

How it all began

In 1948, under the auspices of the United Nations, the World Health Organization was established to coordinate and direct all UN efforts in the field of health care for the world's inhabitants. It is responsible for addressing global health issues, setting current research topics and setting standards and standards for health protection. In addition, by monitoring and assessing the dynamics of the health situation in the world, WHO is developing a policy of supporting countries in need.

One of the tasks of the World Health Organization is to provide access not only to medical assistance, but also to information providing general protection against potential threats. This function is realized through the World Health Days.

7 April

In order to draw public attention to public health problems, various activities are being carried out at the initiative of WHO during the year. The most famous of them is World Health Day. It is held annually on April 7 - it was on this day in 1948 that a decision was taken to establish the World Health Organization.

Of course, educational work is conducted more than once a year. The most menacing and potentially dangerous problems of mankind "received" their dates and are also annual. It's about children's health, cancer and tuberculosis problems, tobacco control and drug use, environmental protection and prevention of man-made disasters , etc. These socially important issues for humanity must be "on everyone's lips" in order to reduce their threat and To raise the standard of living of people in all corners of our planet.

From all medical institutions is expected to conduct explanatory work and activities aimed at disseminating information about a particular problem. Employees of WHO also involve volunteer organizations that help to attract public attention.

Indicate the problem - do half the work

World Health Days have their focus and are devoted to some priority area of health. So, in the last year of 2014 the event was devoted to the fight and prevention of vector-borne diseases (those that are mainly transmitted through the bites of bloodsucking insects). The campaign on the occasion of this day promoted the dissemination of information not only about the vectors and diseases that they cause, but also about how to protect people and protect themselves.

In 2013, WHO drew people's attention to the prevention of hypertension. The statistics of this issue are cruel: every third person in the world suffers from this disease. The main activities were aimed at reducing the number of heart attacks and strokes.

Even earlier, in 2012, the events for World Health Day were held under the motto "Good mood adds life to the years". The main theme was the aging of mankind and the excess of the number of people over the age of 65 over the youth. Of course, we all want our loved ones, and we ourselves live as long as possible. About what is necessary and how to live for this, and was mentioned in the materials of WHO.

What will we talk about today?

The holding of World Health Day in 2015 was devoted to food safety. It would seem that it can be dangerous in food? But in the world about 2 million people (mostly children) die from "food poisoning" every year. In fact, everything is much more complicated, because unsafe products can trigger the appearance of almost 200 diseases, the simplest of which is diarrhea. Viruses and parasites, pathogenic bacteria and chemicals that enter our body can eventually cause cancer.

Today, we have the opportunity to try products grown or prepared in any country in the world. Logistic supply chains are of an international nature. This is why WHO focuses on the need for government consolidation of all countries in food safety issues.

World Health Day, whose motto: "From farm to dish - making food safe!", Is designed to inform people about the importance of gaining access to safe nutrients and water that help maintain a normal standard of living.

What else does WHO pay attention to?

According to WHO staff, every year to draw attention to some topical issue at the moment is an important but small contribution to the development of the health care system. After all, there are global issues that truly threaten humanity. In addition to April 7, there are other dates when World Health Days are celebrated. In fact, WHO throughout the year emphasizes our focus on the need to protect our own health and longevity.

So, what other days of the calendar is worth paying attention to? Of course, to list absolutely everything is not necessary, but we will remember some. So, at the beginning of the year there are two interesting dates:

On February 12 "International Labor Day" is celebrated. After all, despite the mass of healthy people, there are those who undergo outpatient treatment. To their rights and problems calls to listen to WHO.

March 1 - another World Health Day - the Day of Immunity. The need to maintain and strengthen the immune system is not said only by the lazy one. After all, in fact, it is about the internal capabilities of our body to resist viruses, infections and pathogens. Therefore, each person will be very useful information on ways to strengthen immunity throughout life.

Forewarned is forearmed

On March 24, the World TB Day, we once again recall the complexity and prevalence of this disease. And about the elementary rules of hygiene: their adherence repeatedly reduces the risk of developing the disease. And still you need to remember that tuberculosis can be cured, and the sooner a diagnosis is made, the easier and faster the rehabilitation course will be.

July 8 - World Day Against Allergies. Every year, allergens become more and more. And one way to learn how to prevent the emergence of allergies or how to get rid of seizures is to pay attention to the information distributed on this day.

The world against

May 31 - World No Tobacco Day. Nothing to say here. It has been repeatedly proven the harmful effects of tobacco smoke and tar fumes not only on the smoker himself, but on the people around him. Passive smoking is recognized almost more dangerous than active.

As you can see, every World Health Day is called upon to draw people's attention to the seemingly inconspicuous, but very important problem of mankind. After all, today there are still such global horrors as drug addiction (special days for reminding about this - March 1, March 19 and June 26), mental imbalance (in the modern world this pathology is becoming an increasingly daunting threat), the problems of old age and the upbringing of healthy children.

Caring for children is a global goal of society

It is not news that human health is laid in the womb. A proper education of the child - the best prevention of many diseases. World Children's Health Day is called once again to remind us, adults, about the responsibility for all the kids who are not yet able to take care of themselves.

Within the framework of this program, WHO outlined such problems (for them, by the way, special calendar days are also highlighted):

  • International Children's Day (1 June);
  • World Breastfeeding Week (July 1-7);
  • Mother's Day (26 November).

Since the health and tranquility of the mother is the key to the correct upbringing of children, WHO calls for providing them with everything they need.

Days of medical workers

The task of protecting the health of the population, and in cases of need and rendering assistance, is assigned to employees of medical institutions. Of course, not all countries can (and want) to provide the proper level of professionalism in this area. Therefore, the international days of health workers are another step towards drawing attention to this global problem. Throughout the year, several times we "pay tribute" to the Red Cross and Red Crescent (May 8), nurses (May 12) and all employees of medical institutions (June 17). In addition, WHO supports such a direction as "Physicians of the world - for peace", designed to promote the peaceful resolution of emerging conflicts and misunderstandings.
