Windows 7: Infinite update. Reasons, correction

For all Windows systems, you can install update packages. And the seventh version, although it is considered the most stable of all existing, did not become an exception. However, and she first sets the search. Upgrading Windows 7 for an infinitely long time can go for various reasons. Let's consider all aspects related to this. The solutions proposed below help to eliminate the unpleasant situation in 99% of cases. And all of them are simple enough that they can be used even by the most unsophisticated user of system settings. But first things first.

Why does the search for updates go endlessly (Windows 7)?

Let's begin our consideration of the main issue by finding out the reasons for the violations in the update service. Among the main root causes, most experts point to the failure of the "Update Center" itself and the system services that are involved in this process.

Now the situation with the virus exposure will not be considered, because each user must take care of protecting his computer. Consider how to eliminate the endless renovation of Windows 7 on its own. There are at least three ways to do this.

Windows 7: Infinite update. Diagnostics of the "Update Center" using the system

Since the endless process of searching for update packages is associated with the "Center", it is logical to assume that this service needs to be checked for operability.

If you use the software of the system itself, the problem that the Windows 7 update goes endlessly is fixed through the built-in debugger. You can call it from the "Run" console (Win + R) by typing the msdt / id string of WindowsUpdateDiagnostic, after which a window will appear in which you should use the link to additional settings. In the new window, you first need to install the "bird" in front of the permission to automatically apply the fixes, click on the startup link on behalf of the administrator and click the continue button. After this, it remains to wait for the diagnostic process to finish, go to "Update Center" and set a manual search followed by confirmation of the installation.

Troubleshoot problems with the help of a special utility

If someone does not like the method suggested above or is just too lazy to dig into the debugger's settings, you can go the other way.

From the official Microsoft website or any other trusted resource, you should download a small program called WindowsUpdateDiagnostic. It, by the way, is suitable for more recent versions of the system.

After the first start of the utility, select the update center line and activate troubleshooting. They will be displayed in the results, which may indicate problems with the drivers or with the hard drive. Please note: the program does not fix the problem in Windows 7. An endless update is only detected and its possible cause is indicated. So you have to install the driver or check the hard drive itself.

The driver can be installed from the Device Manager, but it's a very long process. It is better to use automated tools like Driver Booster with automatic search and integration of drivers into the system.

Download the standalone update package

If the problem persists, you still have to pay attention to the "Update Center" of Windows 7. You can also fix the endless search by another method.

To do this, you need to download the so-called stand-alone package with the number KB3102810 to the computer, selecting a bit depth (32 or 64 bits) for the system when downloading. Download the package, again, you can either on the Microsoft website or on another resource. But this is only half the battle.

Stopping the Update Center service

In Windows 7, an infinite update can be fixed only if the service itself is responsible for locating and installing updates. You can try to terminate the active process in the "Task Manager", but, as a rule, this will lead to nothing, and the service is activated again.

Its complete disabling can be performed only in the corresponding section of services, which is accessed through the services.msc command, entered in the corresponding line of the "Run" menu.

Here you need to find the update center line, right-click the shortcut menu and choose the stop job command.

In order not to rummage through the services directory, you can use the command line with administrator rights (cmd in the "Run" console), where you should register the net stop wuauserv combination.

Installing the package and manually searching for updates

Now the most basic thing is installing the stand-alone package. We start it with a standard double click on the downloaded file and agree with the installation proposal.

After that, the installation process starts. When finished, you will need to restart the computer. If errors occur during the integration of the package into the system, it means that something was done wrong at the stage of disabling the update service. Repeat the above steps and run the installer again. In addition, it is possible that the installation file of the stand-alone package was not fully loaded (this also happens). In this case, as is already clear, you need to repeat its download or download from another source.

When the package is successfully installed and the system is restarted, you should go to the "Update Center" and use the manual search for updates.

If nothing has helped

Finally, if none of the above does not help, in Windows 7 an endless update can be removed by installing the UpdatePack 7 Live service pack (build version on July 31, 2013).

Upon completion of its integration, the search for updates will automatically start. It is very likely that they will be found very much (in some cases, their number can reach two hundred or more). You should not be surprised, after all, in fact, after installing the package, the user gets almost a "clean" system, in which updates were not installed.

Note: you can install this pack only on top of the already existing Service Pack 1. If it is not, the update will not be installed. The output is an installation of SP1 (even if from the official Microsoft site).

Conclusion

As you can see, there is nothing particularly critical in this issue. It is eliminated quite simply by all the methods proposed. It stands to reason that such solutions are applicable only to a system in which there are no potentially dangerous or existing threats that can cause or interfere with the operation of the Windows Update service. In all other cases, such solutions help. In the matter of preferences, the user himself decides how to proceed, although it is possible to first use complex diagnostics, and only then install an autonomous package or service pack. Which of them should I choose? Actually, absolutely without a difference. And the opinions of users about the installation of either one or another update differ, so it will be up to you to decide.
