Wind turbines with a vertical axis of rotation. Advantages, disadvantages and operating conditions

The struggle for ecology, the massive construction of country houses, dachas, the development of farms and the rise in the price of tariffs for the use of electricity, without which a person does not imagine a comfortable, comfortable existence, made us think of alternative sources of electricity. Thus, at the beginning of the last century in Denmark, a small country, and therefore not in need of large-scale facilities for solving similar problems, built the first wind generator, which uses wind as a converter of kinetic energy to mechanical.

People used it for a long time. Remember the mills, which in our time we can only see in the cinema, and before there were a lot of them all over the country. Alternative energy has recently become the most urgent topic, it is discussed, it is discussed both by specialists and ordinary people. She made me remember the "well forgotten old".

There are two types of designs using wind force:

- rotary Or wind turbines with a vertical axis of rotation;

- winged, with a horizontal axis of rotation.

What are their differences, advantages and disadvantages, optimal operating conditions?

The power of any wind turbine depends only on the range of its propeller and the strength of the wind. Both devices use wind lift or resistance force, only the location of the structure in relation to its movement - vertical or perpendicular, respectively.

Wind turbines with a vertical axis of rotation do not require an arrangement directly on the motion of the air flow. They are faster gaining momentum with a stronger wind than the vane structures, they themselves react to the change of direction and permanently retain the speed of rotation. The location of wind generators having a horizontal axis of rotation must be tied to the movement of the wind, and when it changes, the installation must turn around, which leads to the loss of a certain power.

In both generators, the main load is carried by the main components - the hub and the bearing-bearing mechanism. But wind turbines with a vertical axis of rotation require more frequent replacement of these parts.

When choosing a device, one should take into account the slow speed of the carousel view, therefore, to increase the efficiency and increase the torque, some manufacturers use multipliers instead of bearings. This increases power, but wind turbines with a vertical axis of rotation become more expensive as a result than their winged counterparts. And the question arises about the appropriateness of using them.

The service life of the structures is approximately the same - 15-25 years. At the same time, the periodicity and timeliness of the replacement of the component parts must be maintained and proper care should be taken.

The efficiency of wind generators is almost the same in different designs. The efficiency of carousel plants is - 20-30 percent, and in horizontal - 25-35, respectively.

In pricing education, the policy of producers does not always correspond to reality and common sense. Prices for vane structures are much cheaper than on their vertical counterparts. Sometimes this difference can be half the cost, or even more. This can be explained by the cost of the main components, the degree of wear and the use of additional installations in the form of permanent magnets for amplifying the power .
