"White Guard" - a short summary for schoolchildren

One of the best works of Mikhail Bulgakov is a novel about the life of an ordinary friendly family in Kiev in the middle of the Civil War. The book "White Guard", the brief content of which is often asked in school, is worth reading to the whole. For retelling does not give a complete idea of the work.

Heroes - the same white guard. The summary of the same book can be accommodated in several paragraphs. The action begins in winter, when to Kiev (its name is not mentioned anywhere in the novel, but is read clearly) fits with Petlyura's army. The circle of characters is narrow enough - these are the two Turbins' brothers - the senior Alexei, the doctor, and the younger Nikolai in the rank of non-commissioned officer - and their married sister Elena. They often have visitors, military friends, lieutenants, lieutenants, adjutants - Myshlaevsky, Stepanov, Shervinsky. Their pleasant, but agitated communication goes against the background of frightening news.

When retelling the novel "White Guard", the summary does not allow us to delve into the discussion of the political situation against which the events unfold. Moreover, they are just a backdrop for family and human tragedy. Helen actually throws her husband - under the plausible pretext that he leaves with headquarters in the unknown. The brothers, along with their military friends, are involved in the formation of the Russian division. However, time is already lost, and new untrained parts can not protect the city.

The novel "The White Guard" develops the intensity of passions on the growing: from the misfortune of society to the tragedy of the Turbins' family. During the Petlyura attack, the younger one, Nikolai, is exposed and is experiencing a deep emotional shock. And Alexei because of haste and his own oversight becomes an accidental victim of the enemy. He manages to escape Petlyura's soldiers, but he could not have gone far if he had not been helped by an unfamiliar woman. Her name is Julia Reise, and she later helps the injured to get home. Subsequently, this is the reason for a serious relationship. However, do not rush. The novel tells of what the white guard is still experiencing (the summary can not convey all the details).

Despite the departure of the headquarters and Petliura's entrance, the Turbins' house is not empty. The brother of Elena's husband comes, who has his own grief, his wife left him. And in a hospitable family he is happy. The owner of the building, in which the Turbines live, is robbed by bandits, looking for carefully hidden goods. And Nikolai finds the family of his deceased commander and tells them the tragic news of his heroic demise. But the apotheosis sets in with Alexei's illness. His wound is inflamed, and he is diagnosed with typhus. His colleagues, doctors believe that he will not survive. But Sister Helen prays for him, she is ready to abandon her husband, if only her brother survived. This is what happens. In the disease there is a positive change, and a little later comes the news that Elena was thrown by her husband. The surviving men begin to build a new personal life, and meanwhile their family is already waiting for a new test - reds come to Kiev. This is what the novel "The White Guard" looks like in general terms, the brief content of which you have read.

However, the greatest success to its author, Mikhail Bulgakov brought a play, written later. Bulgakov did not call it the "White Guard", the brief content of which became the basis. Its name is "Days of Turbins". This play liked to watch Stalin, and it was this that saved the great writer from a terrible death. But that is another story.
