What you need to do right after buying a new computer: 5 points

Buying a new computer is a major and important investment, and it is very important to ensure its effectiveness from the first minutes. With a new computer it's important to start working correctly from the very first inclusion. These first steps are not so many, but they will help you to ensure a correct and trouble-free work for a long period.

Pay attention to these five actions, they are very important for the stable operation of the computer in the future.

Check for software

Prepare to spend a little time at the computer, after you turn it on for the first time. The thing is that you have to adjust some parameters in the way that suits you more. Once you're done with it, check your software. Determine which of the installed programs you need, and which can be safely removed.

Computer manufacturers often sell hard disk space to those software vendors who are willing to pay more, which is what makes it possible to sell computers cheaper. It often happens that many of the pre-installed programs you simply do not need. However, not all of them are so bad, some can be quite useful to you personally.

Determine which programs should be left and which ones to remove. Removing unnecessary software will free up space on your hard drive and in some cases increase the performance of your computer.

Choose the most suitable Internet browser

The main choice today consists of four popular browsers: Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Firefox and Opera. Each of them has a number of advantages and disadvantages, so the best way to make the right choice is to base on what services you use.

If you use Outlook and SkyDrive, the best choice for you will be Edge, especially considering how well it was developed by Microsoft specialists. If you're using Gmail and Google Drive, then Chrome is best for you. If you are used to working with Firefox or Opera browser and do not want to get used to something new, set the habitual one.

Another important point: if you often use the Internet on your smartphone, it makes sense to install the same browser on your computer as on your mobile device. This way, you can sync bookmarks and search history and views.

Install an antivirus

Despite constant reminders and frequent news about hacker attacks and viruses, a huge number of computers are still completely unprotected.

On new computers, sellers pre-install a trial version of the antivirus, which runs from 15 days to three months, depending on the program. Do not forget that the antivirus needs to be extended, purchased or reinstalled. One malicious program that slips into your operating system is enough, and the consequences can be catastrophic for both your personal information and the new computer.

Back up your settings

Even if it sounds too paranoid, it also happens that the system can start to "bug" from the very first days. This happens infrequently, but it happens. Therefore, once you have configured all the system parameters and installed the necessary software, make a disk with a backup copy. Thus, in case of malfunctioning, you do not have to start all settings from scratch.

In addition, Windows has a utility that allows you to create a backup of your system settings. Use it as soon as you have changed the settings.

Follow the periphery

Once you have installed all the necessary programs and configured the settings, take a fresh look at the old (and new) peripherals, which probably takes up a lot of space.

Despite the fact that even the latest versions of Windows are compatible with earlier products, buying a new computer may mean that it's time to change some peripherals. For example, old flash drives and external drives may not be compatible with USB 3.0 or USB C ports, and it's better not to even try to connect an old scanner or printer, you have to buy a new one. A USB hub may not be necessary, because modern computers provide significantly more ports than older versions. If the camera has a built-in camera, then the external webcam will also take up extra space.

And most importantly: pay attention to the mouse and keyboard. Most often when buying a computer you get a cheap and not ergonomic keyboard and mouse. Buying a good replacement will prove to be more than an excellent investment.
