What to do if the gum receded from the tooth: dentist's advice

The term "periodontium" in medicine denotes soft gum tissue. Accordingly, the inflammatory process, which provokes the detachment of these tissues, is called "periodontitis". This disease is serious enough and requires timely treatment; If this is not done, a person can lose several, if not all, teeth. If you notice when cleaning your teeth that the gum has gone away from the tooth, you should register with the dentist as soon as possible.

Periodontitis can be identified by the following features:

  1. When brushing your teeth, you find blood on the brush.
  2. Your gums bleed during eating, and you are painful to chew. The reaction to hot and cold food is increasing.
  3. When you look in the mirror, you notice that the gum is gone from the tooth.

Paradontosis can be caused by a number of reasons. Among the most common are

  • Prevalence of soft food in the diet (this significantly reduces the tone of the gums);
  • Incorrectly installed dentures or metal-ceramic crowns, injuring the gums with sharp edges;
  • Tartar;
  • Lack of vitamins of group C;
  • Problems with the thyroid gland and general overwork.

After the gum receded from the tooth, the cervix becomes practically naked. Disease bacteria easily penetrate into the root region and destroy it. In most cases, this process leads to the complete destruction of the tooth.

So, than to treat the gums? Remember: the earlier you start to fight the disease, the higher the chances of keeping your teeth whole and healthy. As soon as you notice any of the symptoms described above, consult a doctor. Do not wait for the gum to move away from the tooth - this indicates that the disease has reached the last stage. Most specialists begin the process of treatment with the fact that they professionally clean teeth from plaque and stones. In the future you will have to adhere to a certain diet. In particular, dentists recommend paying attention to such products as lemons, oranges and grapefruits (generally citrus fruits), black currants and all hard varieties of apples. But sweets, alcohol and cigarettes will have to be abandoned or at least limited to their consumption. Also, when treating paradontosis, it is necessary to refrain from tea and coffee, since these drinks provoke tooth inflammation, promote the formation of tartar and slow down the process of gum restoration.

If the recovery comes slowly, the doctor prescribes special solutions for rinsing and therapeutic ointments that need to be applied to the gums.

In case the gum is separated from the tooth so severely that it is about to drop out, the patient is shown such procedure as splinting: the diseased tooth is attached to two adjacent ones by means of a special medical thread. If the inflammatory process has developed too much, it is advisable to remove the tooth - this is necessary so that the others do not suffer.

In order to prevent the occurrence of periodontal disease, doctors advise to carefully observe hygiene and periodically rinse the oral cavity with chamomile infusion, a decoction of St. John's wort or dog rose brewed with oak bark. All these products have a pronounced antimicrobial effect and have a beneficial effect on the gums.
