What material should we make shelves for?

A bath for every Russian person is much more than just a place for ablution. It is a temple that cleanses the body and soul. And the heart of this cult structure is considered to be the steam room. How pleasant it is to climb up warm shelves from a tree, relax, relax after a hard day, allowing your body to truly relax! When the tree in the steam room heats up under the influence of high temperatures, it acquires a healing effect, as it becomes a natural inhaler. Believe me, you will get a double pleasure if you make shelves for the bath with your own hands. However, in order to make them comfortable and have long served, you need to pay close attention to the selection of material. So, let's consider what options are available.

What to make shelves for a bath

This question should be approached seriously, because the material that you choose should withstand both heat, and high humidity in the room, be comfortable for the body and safe, not to break down from temperature changes. Proceeding from this, only three types of wood are suitable for making a shelf for a bath : abashi, linden and aspen. Only they have the smallest resin content, relatively low thermal conductivity, sufficient fiber density and, most importantly, moisture and heat resistance.

Abashi

This is African wood. From it in the West they have been building saunas for more than half a century. All because of the fact that this material has a record low thermal conductivity, does not darken with time. It is very light, but at the same time quite strong. Another advantage is that the Abashi wood has a unique resistance to impregnation, so that only its surface becomes wet, and inside it remains completely dry. True, this material is not cheap, but it does not make it less popular.

Linden

This is an excellent material for making shelves in the bath with their own hands. When heated, the lime leaves a wonderful aroma of wood, which has healing and relaxing properties. This breed of wood is practically not subject to splitting and has a relatively low heat capacity, so you can safely sit on these shelves, without fear of burns. In addition, this sort of wood is quite inexpensive, but it has a decorative disadvantage - it starts to darken quite quickly because of the moisture.

Aspen

This tree is very easy to process, it splits well, is polished and colored, has a fairly low price, which makes it the most affordable material for creating a shelf for a bath today. Aspen when heated does not have a pronounced odor, but it has a low wear resistance. However, to choose a lining from this type of wood should be very carefully, because outside it can look perfect, but rotten from the inside.

Features of manufacturing shelves

Material selected, now arm you with practical advice on the direct manufacture of bath shelves. Before you start, it's best to draw a sketch. Remember that with proper placement, the shelves should be fixed to the floor and the blind walls of the steam room, that is, where no vent and windows are provided, and also at a sufficient distance from the oven to prevent the possibility of burns. Take for the rule the following points:

1. The distance from the topmost shelf to the ceiling must be at least 120 cm.

2. The gap between the boards of the shelf should not be made more than 1 cm. It is also impossible to do them completely, since they exist for the outflow of moisture.

3. Use a thin lining - it dries out faster after visiting the steam room.

4. That the boards are not cracked, their width should not exceed the thickness more than four times.
