What kinds of graphics do you know?

In the section "computer graphics" we study ways of creating new and processing existing graphic files by means of special hardware. To work with such data, a large number of classes of programs are intended.

The following types of graphics stand out:

- vector;

- Raster;

- fractal;

- three-dimensional;

- symbolic.

The latter has not been used for a long time, therefore in this article we will only talk about four types.

Specific types of graphics determine the specifics of working with them. So, for example, working with raster graphics implies, rather, its processing, rather than creation. And with a vector, on the contrary, more creation than processing.

Let us consider in detail each type of graphics.

1. Vector

The main element is the line. A line is straight or a curve is absolutely unimportant. With the help of lines all objects of vector graphics are formed. Simple objects form complex ones. It turns out that all the lines are connected.

The properties of lines include such indicators:

- the form;

- Thickness;

- Colour;

Character.

If the line is closed, then it has the filling property. A nonclosed line has two vertices-nodes, which in turn have their own properties.

2. Raster

Here, in contrast to the previous view, the main element is the point. For the screen image - a pixel. It has the properties of color and placement.

Disadvantages of raster images :

- take up a lot of space in the computer memory;

- it is impossible to enlarge the picture for better consideration of the elements.

3. Fractal

The image in the fractal graph is a number of identical elements connected together. To build such drawings help special algorithms or formulas. Modification of images is possible when replacing numbers in algorithms or parameters in formulas.

4. Three-dimensional

The object of studying 3D-graphics are methods for constructing 3D models of specific objects and objects. It is important that they correspond as much as possible to their real prototypes. For this, different shapes and surfaces are used.

Studying the types of graphics, you must pay attention to the following concepts:

Resolution. There is a resolution of the screen, the printer and the image itself. When working with graphics, the latter is important. This is an image property. The unit of measurement is dots per inch. Sets the resolution during the creation of the image in the editor or during the scanning process.

Under the physical size of the image is understood its real height and width. It can be measured in pixels, and in centimeters (millimeters, meters, etc.). It is also assigned during the creation of the drawing and is stored with it. For an image that is scheduled to be displayed, the physical size is indicated in pixels. This allows you to determine exactly which part of the screen it will take. The size of the image that will be printed is indicated in length units to understand how much space it will take for it to be on a sheet of paper.

All kinds of graphics have their advantages and disadvantages. But, despite this, for each of them today has its own area of application. For raster graphics it is - restoring photos, for example, and for vector graphics - creating advertising banners. Perhaps in the near future the world will become aware of a new kind of computer graphics. Who knows?
