What is emancipation and what are its options

What is emancipation? All of us somehow came across this notion. And most of our fellow citizens will surely associate it with the struggle of women for their own rights and equality of the sexes. And such a response will indeed confirm the civil, criminal and family codes of the Russian Federation. This is unequivocally stated in Article 17 of the Russian Constitution. It deals in general with the inalienability of fundamental freedoms and the rights of any person. And, for example, the first article of the Civil Code of our state reminds that the legislation is fundamentally based on the recognition of the absolute equality of all subjects of legal relations. All this is true, but the association of the notion of emancipation solely with the struggle for women's rights is fundamentally wrong. This term comes from the Latin emancipare, where it meant the release of children from the power of the parent. Over time, the concept was transformed, and by the end of the nineteenth century it had acquired the significance that it knows today-the fundamental elimination of some kind of dependency, the cessation of restrictions and the equation of the rights of some categories of societies, among others. Thus, emancipation is a very broad social phenomenon. And now we will be convinced of this.

What is gender emancipation?

As we have already said, in this sense the concept is most often perceived. At the same time, it should be noted that emancipation, besides women's, may be male. Actually, it is a natural result of the struggle for gender equality. The penetration of women into primordially male spheres of activity such as business or politics automatically implies, firstly, the appearance of men in women's professions, and secondly (and this is the main thing), removes from them a number of traditional duties towards women.

What is the emancipation of minors ?

This concept implies the same equation of rights, but already in relation to young members of society. Actually, this recognition of their competent representatives of society. Thus, in the midst of archaic peoples, various initiation rites are often used and used today, turning a boy into a man. In modern states, legal capacity comes automatically after reaching a certain age. By the way, in the legislation of many countries, including ours, it is recognized as part-time - upon reaching fourteen, sixteen, eighteen years old and so on.

What is national emancipation?

In general, with this category everything is intuitively clear. It implies equalization in the rights of representatives of one nation (race, confession) with others. Remarkable examples are first the abolition of slavery, and then the struggle of the blacks for their rights in the United States. Or even earlier, the emancipation of the indigenous Indian population in the same United States. A separate layer here is the so-called emancipation of Jews. Representatives of this nation, because of their seclusion and Judaism, were persecuted for a long time on the European continent. Their limited rights were even officially fixed at the state level. The process of emancipation of Jews continued from the XVIII century until the first half of XX.
