What is a monitor?

Today almost every family has a computer. But very few people know what a monitor is, how it works and what is embedded in the principle of its operation?

A monitor is a special device used to display an image. There are two types of monitors: monochrome and color. Monochrome, respectively, designed to output images using two colors. Today, there are two modes of operation of monitors: text and graphics.

We'll analyze what a monitor is for working in text mode. This is a screen that is conditionally divided into familiarity. As a rule, it is divided into 25 rows of 8 positions. Each familiarity is a certain field, where certain symbols are displayed. The total number of characters is 256. Among them are uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and punctuation marks, special symbols and pseudographic symbols. If you use a monitor that is capable of reproducing a full spectrum of colors, each familiarity can be highlighted with a special color of text and background.

Now consider what a monitor is for displaying graphs, unique images and other things. First of all, we note that with the help of a graphical monitor you can display various inscriptions with unique fonts and sizes. After all, this type displays images using points, the more of them, the better and clearer the image. Every point is a pixel. It can have its own color, and the total number of these points vertically and horizontally is called the screen resolution of the monitor.

Before you make a purchase, you need to understand what a monitor matrix is. It is performed using different technologies, and its quality is due to the size of the pixels (grains). The more pixels, the worse the display quality.

Do not miss the color gamut of the screen. The number of colors characterizes the quality level. According to the individual technical features of each computer, there are several modes of graphic display: EGA, VGA, SVGA, LCD.

To monitor one of these modes, the graphics accelerator of a personal computer must be equipped with sufficient memory. SVGA mode is not supported by all programs, and additional drivers are installed for its normal operation.

A monitor is a device that can be of various sizes. Allocate 14-inch, 17-inch, 19 and 21-inch. Inches are the length of the screen diagonal.

As already mentioned, another important detail when choosing a monitor is the grain size of the screen (pixel). To date, the optimal pixel size is 0.26-0.28 mm. If the monitor is selected with grains larger, then it is necessary to use special non-optical glasses, since such points have a bad effect on the eyes.

Today, almost no monitors are produced on the basis of a kinescope, flat-panel LCDs or plasma ones are increasingly produced. These are the most popular technologies, they are more compact, such monitors can be hung on the wall. The most popular manufacturers are LG, ViewSonic, Samsung, Sony and Panasonic.

We have analyzed what a monitor is and what are its main parameters. When purchasing, check the availability of component parts and related documentation.
