What did Fernand Magellan discover? The first round-the-world trip under the leadership of Fernan Magellan

Before leaving the planet for the first time and reaching the Moon, people needed to know as accurately as possible what would be needed for such a distant expedition. Thanks to the latest technology, they also could keep in touch with the stations that controlled the flight. However, the trip of Fernand Magellan, who took command of five ships, looked quite different. Unlike the first situation, the sailors did not go on a pre-designed route, but into the unknown, into the abyss of waters, to places where they had never been. If a book were written about this expedition and this man, it would undoubtedly have a name like: "Fernand Magellan is the history of the world trip". On the other hand, the name could be thought up and more interesting. Such a novel could be called: "Fernand Magellan - conquistador in the Indian Ocean". Whichever title this book wore, it would be a tale of faith and valor. So let's find out that this journey has given us, modern people. We will also be able to see what Fernand Magellan has discovered.

What gave the swim of Magellan

This bold journey is attributed to the unusually courageous exploits of all times and peoples. It influenced people's ideas about our planet and went down in history as the first round-the-world trip under the direction of Fernand Magellan. Thanks to this man it became known that America and Asia share a huge amount of water, that on our planet there is a common World Ocean. At the end of this trip, no one doubted and argued about the shape of the Earth. This expanded the capabilities of scientists of the time, allowing them to accurately calculate the size of our planet.

Acquaintance of Fernand Magellan with sea voyages

This man was born not among the poor, but among the nobles. Therefore, of course, he acted as all the young noble youths did in those days - he needed to become a page at the royal court. From that moment in his life, this man began to learn more about sea travel and outstanding wanderings. Here he learned about the recent voyage of Christopher Columbus, who returned from the shores of America. There he participated in the active search for the western way through the sea to the "islands of spices" (implied Indonesia). Talking more with these people, young Fernand, most likely, already imagines a life full of adventures.

Abrupt change of events

However, in 1495 there is a great tragedy - João II is passing away, and yet he was so good about the young man. As a result of this misfortune, power falls into the hands of Manuel I, who does not think about scientific discoveries, but about his wealth and respect. For a young dreamer everything changes. Despite the numerous requests of Magellan to organize a sea expedition, the ruler remains adamant. More than 10 years after the death of the previous king, Fernand is allowed to go sailing. This young but enterprising young man is sent to a military swim to intercept ships with spices from Arab merchants. After some time, he again goes into the sea and already reaches Malacca. True, despite all the young man's efforts, his courage and courage, the king sends him to "retirement", allocating a small allowance, and dismisses from service.

Magellan does not give up

Despite all the difficulties, our hero did not despair. To lift the spirit helps him the former sailor João from Lisbon. Together they discuss how best to get to the desired "islands of spices". Both come to the conclusion that it is possible to do this if you go to the southwest and swim across the ocean to the recently discovered Balboa. As one, and the other it seems that on the other side of this ocean are "islands of spices." So, our traveler is inspired, it would seem, by an absolutely incredible idea - to explore the western way to the East. However, without money and in those times ships were not built, and expeditions were not organized. Therefore, Magellan began to seek financial support. Realizing that Manuela does not have the necessary help, Fernan decides to appeal to the Spanish king.

Fernand Magellan and the Spanish King

The King of Spain is much smarter than Manuel, with whom Magellan had disagreements. This young monarch not only does not interfere with the seafarer, but he is personally interested in discovering and using the western way to the "islands of spices". For him it seems quite reasonable, since the opening of this route would once and for all put an end to his enmity with the Portuguese mariners on the sea routes. The monarch liking the opportunity in due course to appropriate to itself "islands of spices". On that and decided. The king decides that Magellan's journey can be fully realized, using five old wooden ships (apparently, the monarch decided to save here). So, Fernand is appointed commander-in-chief of this small Spanish flotilla.

Expedition is ready

Finally, after long preparations for a whole year, the travelers go on a voyage on September 20, 1519. So they continue their voyage until March 31 next year. During this time, they were able to reach the territory that is known today, like Argentina. However, the whole team is in despair because they can not find the necessary isthmus to swim into another ocean. Because of what the flotilla flares up. At this point, it is worth paying tribute to Magellan, managed to quickly suppress this insurrection. Two of the rebels lost their lives.

What Fernand Magellan discovered in his journey

Throughout the journey, the team has experienced many difficulties, but has reached its ultimate goal. What did Fernand Magellan discover? During the trip, they gave names to some territories. For example, modern Patagonia owes this expedition its name. Seeing the people with a strong physique, the team felt like dwarfs against the backdrop of these "tough" ("Patagonia" - Spanish. "Most of them"). A year after the trip began, the three remaining ships cross the Strait of Magellan, as it is called today (one ship crashed a few months earlier, and the other left travelers and sailed back to Spain). Also, the Pacific Ocean owes its name to Magellan. The navigator called him this because of the fact that, compared to the previous ones, there has never been a storm there.

Was this the journey of what Fernand Magellan discovered? Judge for yourself. However, for the navigator, this trip was very expensive.

Death of a famous traveler

Due to the fact that he intervened in the conflict between the tribes, the seafarer paid with his life. Only the ship "Victoria" - one of five - returned to its native harbor. Thus ended the story of how Fernand Magellan first round-the-world voyage made famous throughout the world. Mentally traveling with him, we were able to better understand what feelings people were experiencing, decided on this desperate feat. Now we are well known Fernand Magellan. What and where discovered - we also now know.
