Preparation of tools and materials

  • Workplace. To implement the product in the style of patchwork will need a table. On it you will be comfortable to lay out scraps, cut details and sew them.
  • The cloth. For sewing blankets, prepare pieces of cotton fabric. They have their advantages: they are easy to hide and sew, pleasant to the touch. Experienced craftswomen often sew their products out of silk. But working with him requires more effort, patience and the skills of sewing delicate fabrics. Before cutting details, all segments must be ironed. Separately prepare a single piece of fabric that will serve as the underside of the product.
  • Threads. A patchwork quilt, the master class for the creation of which is proposed in this article, is made with cotton threads of two colors: a "throw" thread of any color (for manual stitching of parts) and a primary color thread (for sewing a product on a typewriter).
  • Template. Cut out a cardboard or clear plastic pattern, which will be a template for all parts. Most often it is a triangle or a square.
  • Filler. In order for the blanket to be warm and well kept in shape, it will be necessary to insert a filler inside: batting or sintepon.
  • Wide braid for processing the edges of the product.
  • Tools: sharp scissors, chalk or soap for patterning, pins, needle, sewing machine.

We sew a patchwork quilt: a master class for beginner needlewomen

  1. We cut out the details. The square pattern is placed on the fabric, bypassing and cutting out, departing from the 7 mm line. The number of such blanks depends on the size of the blanket you are going to sew.
  2. We collect the parts in one piece. Two flaps are applied to each other and are sewn by hand along the line marked by chalk (soap). When all the square elements are connected, sew the product on the machine. If you have good sewing skills, then it is possible to couple several flaps at once with pins and stitch on the machine, skipping the stage of baiting by hand. Do not forget to alternate details by color. Finish the finished product with an iron.
  3. Making the bottom of the blanket. On the table, place the prepared previously cut fabric and place the filler on it. To the last did not move, fasten it manually or sew on the machine from the middle of the product to the edges.
  4. Assemblage of details. Fix the bottom of the blanket, the filler and the upper patch piece together with the pins. Along the edge of the front side, apply a braid, tuck it under the bottom of the product and make it by hand, and then sew on the typewriter.

That's ready patchwork. The master class is over. Work on creating such a thing will take no more than a week. And you can use it for many years.

You can assume that you have already mastered patchwork. A blanket, a master-class on which you studied, is an example for beginners. In the future, having stuffed your hand in the patchwork technique, you can sew products by combining elements of different shapes and textures. Let it all come out the first time!
