Waterproofing foundations: some ways

Waterproofing the foundation is one of the most important works in the construction, because it is because of it that the building will have a good protection from the effects of moisture. The importance of waterproofing increases many times in the event that the building has a basement or a basement.

Waterproofing foundations is a fairly responsible job, which requires some knowledge and skills. However, it is entirely possible to fulfill it independently. The main condition for waterproofing is to observe all the rules of this process, since it is quite difficult to repair the waterproofing.

If the foundation is stone or brick, the insulation from the impact of moisture is laid at a height of about 20 cm above the ground. Waterproofing foundations in several ways. All the methods that will be described below are the most tested and common in construction.

So, the first way. First lay a layer of cement mortar, the thickness of which is about 3 cm, prepared in a 1: 2 ratio. Then the layer of roofing material is spread. Over the ruberoid, several layers of hot mastic are laid, with a total thickness of up to 10 mm. Then, in several layers, birch bark is applied using pine resin, and in the end, two layers of roofing material and two layers of bituminous mastic are alternately applied .

The next way in which the waterproofing of the tape foundation is carried out is vertical waterproofing. This method is used in the event that the waterproofing is necessary to protect against penetration of water from the surface of the earth. In this case, the foundation is wound with a waterproofing material on the bitumen base along its entire perimeter. If the foundation is to be protected from a capillary fluid, then a layer of insulation material is laid in the place of contact between the brickwork and concrete.

The next way, with which the waterproofing of foundations is carried out, is horizontal, which can be carried out in different ways. If the soil on which the building is built is not moist, it will be sufficient to coat it with bituminous material to protect the base from the effects of moisture. And if the soil is quite wet, then in this case, using a liquid mastic, the entire foundation should be pasted with a waterproofing material. With this method of waterproofing, you need to make sure that the entire surface of the foundation is level enough.

To waterproof the foundations has become more reliable, before laying a layer of crushed stone, which is pre-impregnated with bitumen. Instead of bitumen, you can use liquid glass, which does not need to be updated, but its cost is much higher.

A modern way to protect the foundation from the effects of moisture, rain, melting snow and the like is penetrating waterproofing. In this case, the foundation surface is treated with special materials at temperatures above 5 degrees. Such a waterproofing material penetrates deeply into the pores of the basement and crystallizes there. Thus, in the foundation there will be no cracks and pores, through which moisture can penetrate.
