Watering orchids at home: the main thing is not to overdo it

If you want the orchids that appeared in your house to please you with active growth and beautiful flowers for more than one year, then you need to understand all the subtleties of caring for them. In addition to selecting the right pot, soil, location, correct correction of daylight, it is important to organize a competent irrigation of orchids at home. Do not forget that it will depend on what is the usual climate for the variety of this tropical flower you have acquired. Most often phalenopsis is acquired into the house - the most unpretentious and at the same time quite effective plant.

First of all, it should be noted that the intensity of irrigation differs significantly from the usual for many florists regime: these flowers will not survive the daily moistening of the soil. For normal growth and development, watering the orchids at home should not be done more than 2 times a week in hot weather and 1 time in cool days. For those who do not consider it necessary to comply with these conditions, orchids will simply perish. Excessive moistening of the soil - this is the main cause of rotting roots and, as a result, the death of the entire flower.

There are several ways how to water a home orchid. Moistening of the soil is most often carried out by the usual method in many ways: standing or melted water of room temperature is poured onto the surface of the substrate. It is important to make sure that it is dry before the moment of watering. The need for irrigation is determined at a depth of 1 cm, even if there is no moisture in the upper layer of the soil - this is not yet an indicator. Make sure that the water that has got into the funnel formed by the leaves does not stagnate there - it can cause rotting.

Many fans of these flowers are not looking for simple ways, and watering the orchids at home is organized differently. They arrange their plants a regular shower with water, the temperature of which is about 40 degrees. To do this, you must put the flower in a bath and just pour it with a shower of water. It is important to make sure that the water of the glass does not remain in the funnel of the leaves. This method is often used to accelerate growth and flowering, because it reminds the plant of a classic tropical rain. Many people are interested in how often to water an orchid in this way. If you keep the flower under water not too long, make sure that the water is good glass, then this method can be used regularly as soon as the soil starts to dry out.

Another known method is full immersion. It consists in the fact that watering the orchids at home is organized as follows: a sufficiently large and deep container is taken, filled with water. All pots of flowers are put into it for 20-30 minutes, then the water merges, and the flowers return to their places.

Despite the fact that orchids are afraid of excessive moistening of the soil and roots, they are still tropical plants, so it is important for them that they are in a place with high humidity. It will be nice if you can spray them every morning: the water should fall on leaves, flower sprouts, buds and the flowers themselves.
