War drama "The Ballad of a Soldier": actors, roles, short story

In 1959, Soviet director Grigory Chukhrai released the drama "Ballad of a Soldier" on the screen. The actors and the film crew coped so well with their task that Chukhray's film was nominated for all conceivable and unthinkable film awards, many of them won. What is the story of this tape and who played the main roles in it?

Short story

In the film "The Ballad of the Soldier" actors take us in 1942, in the midst of the Great Patriotic War. Quite still young Alexey Skvortsov bravely behaves on the battlefield: he personally destroys two tanks of the enemy, for which the command plans to award him with the order. However, in response, Lyosha makes quite another proposal: to wait while with the reward, but to give him a vacation for a week.

The command allowed Skvortsov to go away for only six days. He hurried to his mother, but Alexei often had to linger on the way: he would give his family news from one soldier, then from another, he would bring the transfer, he would just help someone.

In one of the villages, Skvortsov meets the girl Shura and falls in love with her as he never fell in love in life. In the end, the young soldier has a few minutes to go to the meeting with his mother. After that he goes back to the front. But no matter how much Katerina (so called the mother of the protagonist) did not look into the distance, her son never returned home.

It's incredible, but after the premiere, Grigory Chukhrai's painting won 101 foreign prizes: the jury prize in Cannes, the prestigious BAFTA award, the Italian award "David di Donatello" and many others, including the Oscar nomination.

The film "The Ballad of a Soldier": actors and roles. Vladimir Ivashov as Private Skvortsov

Vladimir Ivashov, the performer of the main role, was born in 1939, so he did not get to the front by age. However, the future actor was already old enough to understand what was going on around him. Apparently, the impressions of the war years were still quite fresh among all the participants of the film crew, since they achieved recognition throughout the world.

The main role in the "Ballad of a Soldier" Ivashov received when he was only nineteen years old. At that time he studied at VGIK. For the role of Private Skvortsov, Vladimir was nominated for a personal BAFTA award.

In the film "The Ballad of the Soldier" the actors were so convincing that many of them had a career uphill after the premiere. The same was true of Ivashov - he was incredibly popular. It was this artist who recreated the complex image of Pechorin in the film adaptation of the Lermontov novel "The Hero of Our Time", the image of the scout Isaev in the film "Diamonds for the dictatorship of the proletariat." The artist died in 1995, leaving behind about 50 successfully played roles in various films.

"Ballad of a Soldier": actors and roles. Zhanna Prokhorenko in the role of Shura

Zhanna Prokhorenko - graduate of VGIK - was born in 1940 in Poltava. In the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography Jeanne studied on the same course with such celebrities as Galina Polsky, Larisa Luzhina and Lydia Fedoseyeva-Shukshina.

In the drama "The Ballad of the Soldier", the actors Ivashov and Prokhorenko were both debutants, they were on the set for the first time. After the premiere of the painting, Zhanna Prokhorenko, like Ivashov, was invited to various projects with an enviable regularity. Only in the 64th year the young actress starred in six films: in the film adaptation of Ostrovsky's plays under the title "The Wedding of Balzaminov", in the drama "The Unexpected History" of Vladimir Gerasimov and many other films that are now considered the classics of Soviet cinema.

Among other things, the actress played the main role in the melodrama "We lived next door" to Nikolai Larchikov, in the film "The Close Dist" by Vitaly Koltsov, in the melodrama "Coming" by Valery Lonsky and the family film "The Door Without a Castle" by Adolf Bergunker.

Antonina Maksimova as Catherine

The role of Alexei Koltsov's mother - Katerina - went to the deserved artist of the RSFSR Antonina Maximova. Katerina, despite the fact that her son was given a week off, was able to meet with him for only a few minutes, and he immediately went to the front. Subsequently, the woman waited for Lyosha to return home at last, but he never came back from the war.

Antonina Maksimova began acting in movies back in 1934. This was the film "Petersburg Night", in which the young actress received the episodic role of a student. Two years later Maksimova received her first major role: Grigory Roshal entrusted her with the image of the Parisian revolutionary Katrina Milar in the film "Dawns of Paris". Then there was the role of the commander of the link in seaplanes in the adventure film "Sailors". In 1941 the Great Patriotic War began, and Antonina Maksimova went to the front as a radio operator. During the last war years she served in the military theater under the armed forces of the Soviet Union. And after the end of hostilities Maksimova returned to the screen soon, and no longer received major roles in the films.
