"Walther" is a pneumatic pistol. The pistol "Walter P-38"

Walther P38 is a self-loading pistol of 9-millimeter caliber manufactured in Germany. Guarantee resource is 10 000 shots. Weapons were developed in Thuringia, in the town of Zella-Mehlis, at the enterprise "K. Walter Waffenfabrik".

History of origin

In 1936, Fritz Walter together with engineer Fritz Bartchlemens received a patent for a mechanism to lock the channel in the trunk. The principle of its operation consisted in the presence of a rotating latch in the vertical plane. This development marked the beginning of the creation of a new generation of German military pistols under the brand name "Walter". The first implementation of the system was implemented in the fourth version of the developed weapons. However, the successful execution of the mechanism was not carried out immediately. It was preceded by four unsuccessful assembly versions, in which a hidden-type trigger was used. After that, the PP model of 1929 was finalized. It changed the design of the fuse and the trigger mechanism. Now she was with the open position of the trigger. In 1938 the German pistol "Walter" was adopted by the German armed forces. Its use has become widespread and over time almost completely replaced "Luger-Parabellum." "Walter P-38" became the most massive weapon of the German army. Its production, in addition to the territory of the Third Reich, was also established in Belgium and Czechoslovakia. In order to reduce the laboriousness of the manufacturing process during the war, and especially in its second half, the production technology of the Walter P-38 was simplified. Weapons of the war years had a coarser finish and construction without a cartridge pointer. As a trophy, the Walter P-38 pistol was also used in the Red Army, partisans and soldiers of some other countries from the anti-Hitler coalition.

History in the post-war period

After the end of the war, arms production in Germany was stopped for a long time. The "Walter" (combat) pistol was also not manufactured. Production resumed in the territory of Germany only in 1957. Under the brand "P-1" Walther was supplied for the Bundeswehr armament. Since 1957, two models have been produced: the "Walter PPK" and "P-1" pistols. Both postwar samples have a lightweight (per 100 g) die cast aluminum-scandium alloy frame. While the P-38 gun was meant for the police, the Walter P-1 was mainly used for the armament of the country. Thirty-eighth model in small quantities was also produced with a steel frame. However, it was used only for commercial purposes. In 1976, Walter, the P-1 pistol, was significantly improved. To increase the service life, as well as the ability to use cartridges with a more powerful charge, the following elements have been added to its design:

  • In the frame, in the area between the gate delay and the closing bolt, a cross-sectional casing was installed. This part allows you to assume the load from the barrel during the shot. Thus, it became possible to extend the life of the light frame.
  • In the trunks began to use a plug-in pressed liner, made of stellite. This material is characterized by high wear resistance. Thanks to this, the service life of the barrels has increased even with the intensive use of the pistol in army conditions. Also, the development allowed the use of cartridges with a more powerful powder charge, such as 9 X 19 mm NATO.

Structural features

The automation of the "Walter" pistols is due to the recoil energy from the barrel in the short course of it. The latch, located between the tides in the trunk and performing vertical rotational movements, performs locking. To perform its disengagement with the bolt, it is necessary to lower the rear part of the latch. It, in turn, is spring-loaded by a longitudinal shaft, which is located in the tide in the breech at the trunk. The mechanism of action of the "Walter P-38" pistol can be described as follows: when performing a pullback of the barrel, the rod is stuck into the frame. As a result, the latch turns to the disengaging position. After this, two return springs are compressed. They are located on the guides in the gutter rods in the frame (upper part). Then, when the springs are released, the bolt pushes the barrel off, and the spring-loaded rod is set in the same position, thereby releasing the latch. That, in turn, under the influence of the bevel, rises and mates with the bolt.

General Construction

The pistol "Walter P-38" has 58 parts. Among them:

  • Shock-trigger mechanism (USM) - has a double action, equipped with an open trigger. In the handle is a twisted military spring of a cylindrical type. The trigger force in the cocked position in the cocked position is 2.5 kg, and with self-cocking - 6.5. Trigger rod is installed outside on the right side of the frame.
  • Flag - used to manually control the fuse. Located off the shutter to the left. When it is lowered, the triggered trigger is safely lowered. Also, the drummer is locked. The turn limiter for the trigger is lowered, and it is not possible to return to its original position before the cocking state.
  • Trigger.

Features of work

The construction device of the trigger element of the Walter P-38 pistol creates certain inconveniences in its use, especially in the context of military operations. This is because the pinned position of the hook is often associated with the fuse on. The work of the mechanism has the following nuances:

  • The trigger element is set in the forward position when the fuse is switched off. This is done by turning the flag up.
  • If the fuse is switched off, the hook will remain in the same position as it was before the flag is lowered.
  • If the trigger is cocked, the hook moves to the rear position.
  • If the cocking or jerking of the shutter is not present, then when the fuse is switched on, the trigger will remain in the front position.
  • If the fuse is in the on position, the bolt will not stop, it can be distorted. In this case, the trigger is removed from the lock, and the trigger goes into the rear position.
  • In order to set the fuse, even after it was turned off, occurred at the back position of the trigger, you need to cock the trigger. Then switch on the fuse.
  • If the trigger is manually released by holding and pressing down, the hook will take the front position.
  • As soon as the fuse is turned off, the shot can be fired either by self-cocking or after cocking. In the second case, the descent turns out to be softer and short.
  • The role of the uncoupler is the trigger pull. After the shot is fired, the surface of the shutter comes into contact with it. From this, the latter descends downwards and thus performs a separation with the whisper. Single fire is possible if the trigger is fully lowered. In this case, the effort from the pressed trigger is taken over.
  • In order to prevent a premature shot at the time of "failure" of the bolt to the locked position, it is necessary to lock the hammer with an automatic fuse. It's over the trigger. To unlock the hammer, you must move the bolt to the forward position using the lifting lever. It is located on the same level as the trigger.

Description

The magazine in the "Walter P-38" pistol holds no more than 8 rounds. The latch is located on the back (front) side of the handle. The function of the store latch is performed by a fighting spring. Above the trigger, in the back of the bolt, is a pointer. On it you can determine the presence of the cartridge in the chamber. The pointer has the appearance of a protruding edge of a thin rod. Disassembly of the gun "Walter" is quite simple. After all the cartridges have been expended and the store is empty, the bolt must be moved to the rear position. In case of necessity, you can restore the previous state by lowering the delay lever for the shutter. It is located on the same level as the trigger on the frame to the left. If there is no empty magazine in the handle of the gun, then, in order to remove the bolt, it should be slightly pulled back. Then it should be released. If the store is already inserted, this action will send the cartridge into the chamber and lead the Walter (gun) to combat readiness.

Specific design of the gun "Walter P-38"

  1. In this firearm, two return springs of small diameter are used. They are located parallel to each other in a frame, under the bolt.
  2. The ejector has a location on the left, so that the spent cartridges go to the left side.
  3. To turn on the fuse, you must turn the checkbox down.
  4. Trigger pull mechanism has an external arrangement. It is on the frame to the right.
  5. A distinctive feature of the "Walter P-38" pistol is a short bolt with a large hole from above. This design of the shutter was a mandatory requirement for military personnel. Thanks to him, it is possible to shoot through the observation slot, which is in armored vehicles.

Varieties of the "Walter P-38" pistol and its modifications

  1. Walther AR is a prototype of 1936, HP is the second prototype.
  2. Pistol P-38 ("Walter"). Years of production: from 1939 to the spring of 1945. From the end of 1945 to 1946, a small number of pistols of this model were made from the previously produced parts. And then, from 1957 to 2004, weapons were manufactured in a certain amount in the territory of Germany.
  3. "Walter P-38.K" - a more modern version of the pistol with a shortened to 72 mm barrel. It was ordered in 1944 by the Imperial Security Administration for the arming of separate units of SD, SS and Gestapo officers. The company Spree-Werke GmbH has produced several thousand pistols of this model. The fly here is made level with the shutter-cover and is its part. But the Celica retained the adjustment function. On the pistols "P-38.K" Walther brand replaces cyq. After a while this model was used to arm the Ministry of State Security in the GDR. In the period from 1974 to 1981, Walter Waffenfabrick, for the needs of German anti-terrorist special forces, produced another 1,500 P-38.K pistols. And in 200 of them, cartridges with a caliber of 7.65 "Parabellum" were used.

Walther Umarex

"Umarex-Walter" is a pneumatic pistol caliber 4,5 mm. The manufacturer is the German company Umarex. In fact, this model is a copy of the self-loading fire pistol "P-38", produced in 1938 and became one of the most massive weapons of the Second World War. The appearance of modern weapons accurately repeats its old prototype. Pneumatic gun "Walter PPK S" ("Umareks") is made of metal alloy. It uses the "Bloubek" system. It copies the actions of automatics of firearms of the brand "Walter". The pneumatic pistol is equipped with a single-action shock-trigger element. It allows you to make a preliminary platoon. The store "Walter P-38" ("Umarex") holds 20 balls. The shot has an initial velocity of about 115-120 m / s. Dimensions of the pistol - 21 x 13 x 3 cm. Removable trunk is another characteristic feature of this weapon.

Model "P-99T"

The "Walter" traumatic gun is an improved version of this type of weapon. This is not a conversion of Walther P-99 military weapons. This model appeared almost at the same time with the traumatic pistol "Walter PP". In this regard, there was an opposition of weapons to each other. The comparative characteristics of these guns are almost identical. Both models use equally weak and inefficient ammunition. The main differences - the appearance and the number of simultaneously loaded cartridges. According to the last point, the indisputable leader, thanks to a capacious magazine for 15 rounds, is the "Walter" - the P-99T pistol. However, this can not be called a significant advantage, since if one shot is unable to stop the opponent, then all 15 can not be considered a reliable defense in self-defense. The appearance of the traumatic pistol "Walter P-99T" is quite interesting and attractive. Actually, this side of it is the most attractive, because in its practical characteristics this "Walter" (pistol) does not fully meet the demands. For example, such as ease of maintenance and ease of wearing. "Walter", the pistol brand "P-99T", has a medium size. On the one hand, it can not be called pocket, since it can not fit into any standard pocket. But it is not possible to attribute it to large models either. The weight of the traumatic pistol, due to the small content of the amount of the steel alloy, is 600 g, which is 1.5 times the weight of the P-22T model. The advantage of the pistol "Walter P-99T" is strength. This is due to the use of aluminum alloy in the manufacture of weapons, as well as the absence of holes in the casing-bolt. However, the USM of the pistol is also made of an alloy, as a result of which it is especially sensitive to various types of dirt and cleaning, which in turn has caused a short duration of the impact-trigger element.

P-88, P-99

The pistol "Walter" (gas) is an analog of the military model. Deciding to acquire such weapons, it is important to follow certain rules. First of all, before opening the package with gas cartridges, its external sides must be checked for a white or yellowish powder. In the case of finding it, it is not recommended to open the box, since the presence of a coating indicates the leakage of cartridges. In addition, when buying them, you need to check the manufacturer's label on the label and on the bottom of the cartridge case, and also check the validity of the contents of the information on the package.
