Vomiting in the newborn is the main cause

Today we will consider the main causes of vomiting in a child. First, let's give a definition of this unpleasant phenomenon. Vomiting in a newborn is a physiological action of the baby's body, aimed at removing food and other substances through reverse movement (antiperistaltic). It should be remembered that the manifestation of vomiting in children is a purely reflex act (unconscious action), although in some cases due to strong-willed efforts adults are able to cause similar gastric movements.

The first and most common cause of a phenomenon such as vomiting in a newborn is a deviation in the gastrointestinal tract, however, this is not always the case. For example, new-born babies often have a process of regurgitation of the food they eat, which in no way is a gastric pathology. This manifestation may be associated with overeating, but more often it is simply a physiological feature. If a child spits a little, then this is not a reason for medical intervention.

The next reason, which is second in frequency, is intestinal diseases or an allergic reaction to certain food components (milk, lure). In the event that the process of vomiting in your child is accompanied by uncharacteristic rashes, you must urgently consult a pediatrician who will prescribe further treatment aimed at eliminating allergic manifestations.

If it concerns a gastric infection, the necessary measures will depend entirely on the severity of the child's condition. An easy infection with a lack of feverish manifestations can be calmed down at home (under the supervision of the treating doctor).

Urgent medical care is required if the emetic cycles do not stop, the body is even dehydrated, the general condition of the baby worsens, the body temperature rises. Often, such problems require the hospitalization of the child. Advice to parents: do not resist such measures, because in most cases, you can make up for lost fluid only by direct infusion through a vein (dropper). The same method for eliminating the infection can be poured and antibacterial substances.

By the way, vomiting in a newborn and a child of younger age can also occur with usual acute respiratory viral infections, accompanied by high fever and general intoxication of the body.

Another frequent reason for the occurrence of vomiting in newborn babies may be pyloric stenosis, which is due to the development of the stomach (more precisely, its pyloric department). In this case, proper treatment is performed only by a surgical method, which depends on the severity of the disease. But do not confuse pyloric stenosis with a seemingly similar pylorospasm. With pilorospazme there are no violations of the permeability of food.

Abundant vomiting in a newborn - a "fountain" - can be associated with immaturity or damage to the central nervous system ( CNS ) that occurred during pregnancy or in unsuccessful births. The neurologist should help to cope with this misfortune.

Also, the cause of vomiting can be a disease (meningitis) or a brain injury (concussion). In this case, vomiting does not bring the desired relief (the child does not calm down after the attack), but only causes additional pain, since, first of all, it is associated with a vomiting center disorder.

Sometimes there is vomiting in children under one year who are healthy and get good nutrition. This is due to the appearance of ketone bodies, which act directly on the child's brain (acetonemic vomiting). This may be a symptom of diabetes, but most often such vomiting occurs because of excessive consumption of fat, which makes the pancreas simply unable to digest them.

And the last cause of vomiting are neuropsychic disorders, which are often not so easy to cope with. The conditions for the occurrence of emetic attacks can be quite different: the smallest ones are a meeting with a stranger, the absence of parents; In older children - longing, unwillingness to do anything, fear. To help in this situation, children's neurologists are called , and also consultation with a child psychotherapist is not superfluous.

Vomiting in the baby is a formidable symptom that can not be ignored - be sure to see a doctor to determine the cause and purpose of the treatment! Self-medication is dangerous and can lead to sad consequences.

During vomiting, never (!) Leave your baby alone, hold it upright and rinse your mouth with boiled water.
