Vomiting in children - what to do?

Vomiting in children - what to do? This question worries the parents if the child complains of nausea and has vomiting. Naturally, the vomiting of a young child causes great discomfort and worries parents very much. Not always this phenomenon is a consequence of a serious illness, but even single cases should not be left without attention. To achieve a greater effect in eliminating vomiting, it is desirable to know the causes of its occurrence. Parents should distinguish between vomiting and regurgitation. Because of the anatomical features of the esophagus and stomach in infants, regurgitation occurs frequently and is not a symptom of the disease. Vomiting in infants may be due to simple overfeeding, but if you notice other symptoms such as lethargy and fever, urgently call the pediatrician! Vomiting is a more serious symptom and can occur with an increase in body temperature in infants with flu, quinsy, scarlet fever and other infectious diseases. Also, vomiting can be one of the symptoms of gastrointestinal diseases. But sometimes the causes of this phenomenon are not so disturbing, for example, vomiting caused by a protective reflex, which in this way helps the stomach to get rid of poor-quality food.

Vomiting rarely occurs suddenly, usually it is preceded by a period of nausea of different duration, sometimes there may be increased salivation. Vomiting that occurs when the temperature rises, as a rule, is single. After the stomach is emptied, it passes. Intestinal diseases (especially dysentery) can be accompanied by repeated vomiting, seizures of which follow one after another. This is very dangerous for the child, this situation can cause dehydration. Parents should be alerted if the child is sluggish, his skin is dry to the touch, there is no urination for more than 3 hours. With repeated vomiting and the appearance of the first signs of dehydration, call a doctor immediately!

Vomiting in children - what to do?

Special treatment for vomiting is not, because it is a symptom of a large number of diseases. That is, it is necessary to treat the underlying disease, then vomiting will pass. In any case, constant medical monitoring of the child's condition and proper care by the parents are necessary. If vomiting is multiple, then it is necessary to take measures to prevent dehydration of the body. Particular attention in vomiting in newborns should be given to avoid aspiration of gastric contents in the respiratory tract, which can be the cause of aspiration pneumonia.

A single vomiting in the child practically does not give complications. But some rules in this situation, Mom should know.

Vomiting in children - what to do with feeding?

So, if after vomiting the stomach is empty, do not immediately try to feed the baby. This can cause a new attack, the baby will lose a lot of fluids and increase the risk of dehydration. Before the next meal, you need to wait at least a couple of hours.
If the child has a fever, do not try to reduce it with antipyretic tablets and syrups. They will be "thrown out" of the stomach at the next attack. You need to use candles or inject these drugs intramuscularly.

After normalizing the temperature, you can give the baby some liquid, for example, sweetened boiled water with lemon (sour taste reduces the nausea and the likelihood of another vomiting attack). If fifteen minutes after this vomiting has not resumed, then the amount of fluid can be increased (literally on the spoon). And only in a few hours you can try to feed the child.

To ease the condition of the child, you can use infusions and herbal tea. So, help means from a powder of a ginger root. It is necessary to prepare ginger water by stirring a sixth of a teaspoon of ginger powder in a glass of warm water. What if the baby's vomiting occurs for no apparent reason?

Sometimes it happens that the child does not have temperature, he did not eat suspicious food, but he vomits and tears. This can be due to intestinal infection, and pathogens can get into the body from quite safe-looking products. Therefore, immediately go to the infectious disease department and take the necessary tests. It should also be remembered that vomiting can indicate head trauma and brain concussion, so if the baby has fallen and hit before, it is necessary to seek medical help.
