Vacation in Stockholm, how to properly plan a trip

How to get to Stockholm

You can get to the Swedish capital by ferry, by plane and by car.

Ferry

The advantages of the ferry are that it arrives in Stockholm in the mornings, docks in the city center, a couple of minutes walk to the metro. The ferry also allows you to go to Stockholm on a one-day cruise, in which case you do not have to rent a hotel room.

The main disadvantage of a ferry trip is that it takes a very long time. But, if you are a lover of sea voyages or for you this is the first time, then choose a ferry - do not regret it.

Ferries to the Swedish capital depart from St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Turku, Riga and Tallinn. Also, Sweden has a ferry connection with Poland, Germany, Norway, Lithuania and Denmark, but ferries from these countries do not come to Stockholm, but to other ports.

aircraft

The main plus of flying a plane is obvious, it's speed. In this case, the price will be negative, since Arlanda International Airport is located 42 km from the city center, and the fare for both a taxi and the high-speed train Arlanda Express, especially for a large company, can be comparable with the price of a plane ticket.

car

By car to Stockholm you can get from Norway, from Denmark, through the famous Øresund Bridge, and from Finland, around the Gulf of Bothnia. The main advantage of car travel will be greater freedom of movement, the main disadvantage is the fact that not everyone likes to spend several hours every day on the motorway.

Where to stay in Stockholm

Hotels

In one of the largest cities in Northern Europe you can find hotels of almost all famous brands for every taste and purse.

Vandrarhem

Vandrarhem is a Swedish equivalent of the hostel. Of course, this is a hostel with Swedish quality standards. It should be noted that most inexpensive hotels offered through numerous booking sites are vandrarhem, but many Russian tourists stop there and remain very satisfied with the accommodation conditions.

rental of property

This method of accommodation offers the largest number of options. Just in case, we note that for a short time to rent an apartment in Stockholm is very problematic (however, for a long time it is also very difficult), and from areas like Rinkeby, Fittja or Salem it is better to stay away.

What to see in Stockholm

If you come here for the first time, it's best to instruct your selection of your excursions in Sweden to a professional.

Parks

The Swedish capital is a very green city, there are many large and small parks and squares. The most famous park of Stockholm, which is necessary to visit, is Skansen, located on the island of Djurgården, in the heart of the city. Skansen is simultaneously a park, an ethnographic open-air museum and a zoo (including a children's one).

Museums

Be sure to visit the Vasa museum, the Royal Palace, the Drottningholm Castle, the National Museum and the Nobel Museum. This is the classic of today's Stockholm, which you can not simply not see. The further list depends on your personal preferences.

Children

Children certainly need to visit Unibacken, a museum dedicated to the work of the great Astrid Lindgren. Little lovers of something to unscrew and disassemble waiting for a visit to Tom Tit Experiment. The Butterfly Museum will give you many colorful photos and enthusiastic memories.
