Unregulated intersection: the rules of travel. Determining the type of intersection

In order to understand the driver, what is an unregulated intersection, you need to carefully study its definition.

Unregulated intersection: what is it?

The SDA clearly states that it has an unregulated intersection of the travel rules and definition. In general, any intersection is the intersection of roads in one plane, and the word "unregulated" means that there is neither traffic light nor regulation on it.

Many novice drivers think that it's easier to drive an unregulated intersection, but here the statistics speak quite the contrary. It was during such maneuvers that the largest percentage of collisions were recorded. But it's very simple: one did not want to miss the other or overestimated his strength, and the second went on the principle or just did not notice the interference.

It is also interesting that the intersection is not necessarily a four-way intersection of roads. Crossroads are also T-shaped, in the form of a triangle, circle or star.

General requirements for drivers at unregulated intersections

Road traffic inspectors do not tire of repeating to all drivers, even those with a driving experience already very large, to safely drive through this type of intersection, you need to be vigilant, as well as respect for all traffic participants, skip pedestrians and those cars that have priority.

A place of increased danger is an unregulated intersection. Rules of travel on it will be discussed below, but there are among them and those who need to pay special attention.

One of the basic rules is keeping distance. One car should be at least 50 meters from the other. This distance is considered the safest. It will allow any driver, not even experienced, to react in time to the current situation and, if necessary, to brake.

In addition, the car when turning should occupy the side in which it is going to turn.

Unregulated intersection: driving rules, determining the type of intersection

Before considering this issue, it should be noted that it does not matter what form of intersection. First of all, you need to understand what kind of type it belongs to.

Intersections by type are divided into adjustable and unregulated. If everything is clear with the regulated one, then the unregulated one is divided into two more types: equivalent and unequal.

An unequal intersection always has one main road and one secondary road. In an equivalent, all roads are the same in priority.

In a driving school, instructors must intelligibly explain to students what an unregulated intersection is. The rules of travel on it are learned. Only so the future driver can drive it safely.

Passage of an adjustable intersection

It should be noted that the rules for the passage of regulated and unregulated intersections are very different. Of course, an adjustable intersection is much easier to overcome. The sequence of traffic is controlled by a traffic light signal, if not, this function can be performed by the regulator.

According to traffic rules, if the intersection is controlled by the traffic controller and the traffic light is working, then you should rely on the instructions of the traffic controller. In all other cases, it is necessary to follow the sequence according to the traffic light signal.

There is one more rule. When turning left, the driver at an adjustable intersection is obliged to give way to all traffic participants who turn right or go straight.

Unregulated unequal intersection: how to determine the main road

The traffic rules clearly indicate the main road signs:

  1. The motorway will always be the main road.
  2. The main thing is any road with a hard surface, whether it's asphalt, concrete surface or pavers.
  3. The main road is marked with the corresponding road signs 2.1.

These comments will only work if the intersection is unregulated and necessarily unequal. Other rules apply to the equivalent.

But the driver does not just need to study three points. There are also unspoken rules for the passage of unregulated unequal crossroads:

  • A driver driving to an unregulated unequal intersection must necessarily slow down;
  • After he was convinced that there were no obstacles, he could start maneuvering;
  • It is strictly forbidden to make a sharp braking before an unregulated intersection.

What are equivalent unregulated junctions?

Equivalent intersection can also be unregulated. The rules of travel on it differ from those that are set on an unequal one. First of all, there are no main and minor roads on this type of intersection. Also, the driver can understand that in front of him is an unregulated equivalent crossroads, with the help of the installed sign 1.6. However, it is not always available.

It should be noted that when approaching the intersection of equivalent roads, the driver should be especially careful. The fact is that it is at these intersections that accidents occur most often, because there is no exact indication of where the main road is located.

Rules for the passage of unregulated equivalent crossroads

As already mentioned, in this type of intersection the driver should be careful and careful. If the intersection, in the opinion of inspectors, is particularly complex, then in some cases marking 5.33, that is, a stop-line, can be marked on it.

Of course, the rules for the passage of unregulated intersections of equivalent roads exist, but there are not many of them. To be more precise, there is only one thing.

The driver, having reached the equivalent intersection, must first slow down, but better, when the flow of cars is particularly large, stop. Only then can he safely pass him. After the driver has stopped, he must make sure that there is no impediment to travel. The interference at the equivalent intersection is always on the right side.

In addition, it is worth noting that if at an equivalent intersection the driver decided to turn to the left, then he is obliged to give way to pedestrians and those members of the movement that move straight, turn to the right.

What is a T-junction?

The T-shaped intersection is a crossroad that looks like the intersection of two roads, however one road enters into another, and most often represents a perpendicular of two lines. In the figures, it is usually depicted as two lines with a right angle.

It is interesting that the T-shaped intersection, despite the fact that it is slightly different from the usual type of intersection of roads, has the same requirements for travel.

This type of intersection can also be ambiguous and unequal. Usually it's easier for drivers to overcome it because there are only three sides to the movement.

The rules for the passage of the unregulated T-shaped intersection exist. However, they are no different from other crossroads. If it is equivalent, then the driver must skip the vehicle passing to the right, and if not - must follow the rules that determine the main and secondary roads.

If the T-shaped intersection turns into a one-way road , then it can only be turned around or turn left (with right-hand traffic).

Unregulated roundabouts

Another type of intersection, which is especially difficult for novice drivers, is called a roundabout. There are never any traffic lights on it, so it's always an unregulated intersection. The rules of travel on it are special.

The circular motion is, like the usual intersections, equivalent and unequal. If the circular intersection is of the second type, then the driver must rely on the appropriate signs. If the intersection with a circular motion is equivalent, then the main road is always in those cars that are already on the circle.

When entering the roundabout, the driver must show the right turn signal. The same indicator should also be lit if the vehicle leaves the roundabout.

Arrive at the intersection with a circular motion the driver can from any number, but to leave only from the right. Also you need to monitor blind areas, because when bending the road some cars are not visible. This is especially true for drivers who have recently been given rights.

Unregulated intersection and pedestrians

Absolutely all drivers must observe traffic rules and caution, especially when talking about pedestrians. If it is a question of usual pedestrian crossings, all is easier. To brake it is necessary in advance, it is necessary to be vigilant, especially if the child has entered the transition.

Also, the driver should be as neat as possible with those pedestrians who run across the road in the wrong place. Of course, in an accident, it will not be to blame, but human life is much more expensive than principles. To ensure that the driver at any time was able to quickly respond to the danger in the form of an intruder, you must always comply with the speed limit.

It is worth noting that the driver, when driving through an unregulated intersection, must also remember one more rule concerning pedestrians. The fact is that when you turn right or left, any traffic participant must stop and miss pedestrians who are going to cross the road, even if there is no specialized crossing there.

A warning

In the end it is necessary to say: "The driver, observe the rules for the passage of unregulated intersections!" Such intersections are places of increased danger. Move on them slowly and carefully.

Particular care should be taken if the road surface leaves much to be desired. Even if the asphalt is good, too, do not neglect the simple speed limit. The fact is, if a person does not see, this does not mean that there is no oily film or dirt on the road surface. It is these factors that have a negative impact on the normal grip of the wheels with the road. If, at a maneuver, the car enters, it is at unregulated intersections that the driver will not have a chance to correct the situation. And it's still good, if only another car will suffer in a possible accident, and if a pedestrian gets under the wheels , it threatens with criminal liability.
