Unknown-famous avenue of Engels

St. Petersburg is rich in sights that attract tourists from all over the world. But every citizen has his own history of relations with the city. In the families of indigenous Petersburgers it has been written for many years by several generations. In addition to famous monuments, palaces and embankments, loved by tourists, St. Petersburg is also familiar to Petersburgers. And everyone has his own. One of the favorite places of the townspeople is the Engels avenue, on the site of which the Vyborgskaya road passed before the city was founded. Its modern name was received in 1918 in honor of one of the founders of Marxism. Now the prospect of Engels, which is 11 km long, is one of the largest arteries of St. Petersburg. We love it from the townspeople, first of all, for its long history. In 1834, in the place where the avenue now passes, the Church of Prince Vladimir was erected, which stood for almost a century and was blown up in 1932. In the depths, in the distance from the avenue, there is the Lansky Manor, built in 1801 and reconstructed in 2009.

In 1929, when the whole even side of the street was already built up, the first tram was put on Engels Avenue. And already in 1970 the prospectus was extended for Poklonnogorskaya street through the lands of the state farm "Prigorodny" to the district railway. Further important events that have taken place with him are connected with the present. So, in 2002, after the opening of the first section of the ring road, part of the avenue in St. Petersburg was reconstructed and connected to the Ring Road. Currently, both parts of the avenue are connected by an overpass, and on its continuation a new section of the Priozerskoe highway was built behind the ring road.

Now the Engels avenue crosses the Svetlanov square, passes next to Udelnaya metro station and goes to Poklonnaya Hill, crossing the district railway line, pierces the historical district of Parnas and ends outside the St. Petersburg Ring Road.

In addition to the prospectus in St. Petersburg, in honor of the famous philosopher and public figure Friedrich Engels also named the city in the Samara region. Continuing the theme of revolutionary figures, Volzhsky Prospekt Engels - part of the Samara embankment is located in the October and Leninsky districts. Volzhsky Prospekt, as well as the Engels Avenue, has its own long history.

Of course, the current look and extent of it already does not remind us of what it was in the 19th century. Many historical buildings, built on its both sides, were destroyed. Now it has great functional significance, being an important transport artery of the city. But, in spite of this, St. Petersburgers, familiar with the history of their native places, remember the history of this prospect.

Unfortunately, most residents of modern cities, who know well the recognized local sights, rarely think about the fact that, in addition to official historical monuments, other places with their rich history have been preserved, albeit not in their original form. In any case, this prospectus can rightfully be considered one of those places that you need to visit without fail.
