Tyrannosaurus against gigantosaurus: the most dangerous predators

For many years, mankind has been interested in the origin and study of the most ancient animals - dinosaurs. Huge, powerful, but at the same time amazing creatures inspire horror and respect for any of us. There are many theories about the emergence of dinosaurs.

Many of us are interested in the question: was the tyrannosaur against the giantosaurus bigger and stronger, or did the animals perform in equal categories? All this can be learned from the characteristics and descriptions of dinosaur species.

Tyrannosaurus: a predatory dinosaur

The most famous among predators is precisely the tyrannosaurus, better known to us from films and books. He is a symbol of paleontology and the image of pristine power and strength.

According to the scientific classification, the tyrannosaurus and several other species similar to it on anthropological grounds form the so-called tyrannosaurids group. Of all the species that are included in this group, the most similar to tyrannosaur is tarbosaur.

Scientists claim that tyrannosaurs lived in North America about 65-67 million years ago, that is, at the end of the Cretaceous period. Paleontologists put forward their theory that tyrannosaurs are the prototype of their ancestors - the raporeks, who lived in the Gobi Desert. The raporexes reached a height of 3 meters and weighed about 80 kg, but they are connected with tyrannosaurs by the general structure of the body and skull.

There are several predators that lived on the planet Earth even before the Cretaceous and excel tyrannosaurs in size and power.

To such dinosaurs it is customary to refer in the following sequence:

  • Spinosaurus.
  • Karharadontosaurus.
  • Gigantosaurus.

They are the most dangerous and powerful predators among themselves.

Nutrition and Characteristics

Tyrannosaurs ate mainly fish, but because of their speed and strength, they could pursue prey a certain distance, moving like ostriches. This is evidenced by the found fingerprints. Tyrannosaurs are characterized by powerful cheekbones and jaws, but the front paws were very small. They moved with the help of massive hind legs and tail, which helped maintain balance. The front paws had two fingers, and the rear paws had four fingers.

It is unfortunate that historians make only hypotheses. These are very unique and interesting creatures, and their study requires tremendous effort and perseverance.

Gigantosaurus

The remains of the ancient dinosaur were discovered in 1995, and according to the scientists' measurements, the gigantosaurus is one of the ancestors of the tyrannosaurus. The animal had small front paws, a massive neck and a jaw. The way of movement was small jumps on the hind legs.

Food and Sizes

The gigantosaurs ate mainly fish and meat, as well as carrion. According to data on the age of dinosaurs, they lived side by side with a huge number of sauropods. Some of them had bone plates on their back, which provided them with protection from attacks from above.

If we compare the dimensions and power, the tyrannosaur against gigantosaur would be defeated, since its ancestor was more developed and adapted to the environment. Since the Gigantosaurus lived until the Cretaceous, its neighbors were no less powerful creatures, with whom they had to fight for a place under the sun.

For many years, paleontologists believed that the largest and most massive dinosaur was considered a tyrannosaurus. The find immediately refuted these versions. Paleontologists from Argentina have provided the world with information that the length of the gigantosaurus skeleton is much larger than that of its predecessor.

Proceeding from the fact that the remains were found nearby, historians put forward the theory that the animals moved and fed groups. In early 2000, scientists and paleontologists from Argentina and Canada announced the discovery of an early relative of the Gigantosaurus. In 2006, he received a new name - Mapusaurus - and was several times larger than the tyrannosaur and gigantosaurus.

So, who will have the advantage when a tyrannosaur protrudes against the giganotosaurus? These dinosaurs are very similar in structure and shape to the skull, but the length of the gigantosaurus skeleton is 13.5 meters, while the tyrannosaurus has 12.5 meters.
