The article describes the history of this institution, where it is located, than it is famous for.

History

The Tula Regional Philharmonic is currently located in the historical center of the city, in a beautiful building, which is an architectural monument of the twentieth century. It was built according to the plan of the famous Russian architect IA Ivanov-Shits. When creating the project, he combined at once two styles: Neoclassicism and Art Nouveau. Initially, the building was built for the local noble club. Due to the fact that in one of the halls was erected a stage, the club since 1918 was used for theatrical productions, and in 1925 was officially transferred to the Tula Drama Theater. Later, in the 70's, the philharmonic society settled here, which previously was located in the local concert bureau.

Director of the Philharmonic from 1957 to 1996 - a legendary personality

In 1952, a promising conductor IA Mikhailovsky, a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, came to the philharmonic society. He did a lot for the institution and in 1957 was appointed director of the society. In this position Mikhailovsky worked for forty years, he devoted his whole life to the fact that the Tula Philharmonic Society flourished, became famous throughout the country. All Soviet celebrities considered it an honor to perform on her stage. As a talented leader, Joseph Alexandrovich was repeatedly tried to transfer to Moscow, but he rejected tempting offers to move to the capital and remained faithful to his native city.
