Topping for concrete floors: repair. The device of concrete floors with topping. Concrete floors with topping: technology

Concrete has a lot of different advantages, but there are significant disadvantages. Among the shortcomings of any concrete floors are the porosity of the coating and low tensile strength. Because of this, it is impossible to use concrete slabs as a completely finished surface. To solve this problem, there is a construction technology - topping. For concrete floors and mixtures, this is an excellent way out.

These floors are characterized by a high level of strength. Such industrial coatings after treatment no longer need any protection, which makes them popular in industrial facilities.

Topping: the other essence of concrete

This technology has been mastered in domestic construction. This is the most economical and easy way to get reinforced concrete floors. With topping, which is a special dry mix, the bases acquire unique characteristics.

What happens to the concrete floor, in the construction of which used topping? The top layer becomes very strong and forms a completely monolithic base. The resistance to moisture is greatly improved. With regard to wear resistance, it rises more than 5 times. Shock resistance is doubled, and the total service life is 4 times.

Dedusting floors

In addition to low strength, untreated floors are characterized by a high level of dust formation. The top layer literally crumbles even at minimal loads. This leads to a strong formation of dust, which will settle on any surfaces and in humans. The process of dust formation is the destruction of the floor, the reduction of its shelf life. Applying topping for concrete floors, you can eliminate this problem.

Description of the technology

This technology will remind every professional builder the process of "glanding", that is, the application of dry cement in the still not dried solution. Topping is almost the same, but it will not be cement, but special mixtures.

Types of mixtures

There are several types of mixtures depending on the filler used. So, today, most often used are quartz, corundum, and also metallized compounds. Let us consider them in more detail.

Quartz topping

Quartz-based hardeners are the most popular and inexpensive products. As a filler, quartz sand is used here , which was cleaned by special technologies. Sand can be painted if it is necessary to obtain, in addition to high characteristics, decorative effect. The use of this composition increases the strength characteristics of the concrete base by a factor of 1.5. This is more than enough for long operation at medium loads.

This topping can be considered a universal solution, which is suitable for most tasks. The material is widely used for flooring equipment in shopping centers, warehouses, industrial shops. Also, the composition is suitable for other types of premises, such as hotel halls, houses. Quartz topping for concrete floors is suitable for wet rooms with a heavy load on the floor. For example, it could be a gym, a fitness center, a sauna or a swimming pool.

Corundum mixtures

Compositions based on corundum are more effective than quartz toppings. So, the resistance to mechanical stress can easily be increased by 1.8 times. As filler, a high-strength corundum crumb is used here. The material is very resistant to abrasion and abrasion. The concrete base will receive a matte finish after the treatment.

This material is widely used for the equipment of floors, which are affected by high loads. So, these are industrial shops in which heavy and massive equipment is installed, where a large number of different vehicles are constantly moving.

Metallized topping

The filler here is the metal shavings. This mixture has the maximum capabilities. This material is the strongest. Strength increases 2 or more times.

Apply metallized topping in rooms where the bases experience a very high mechanical or vibration load. In living rooms, this solution is irrelevant, but in production - the most popular.

Concrete floors with topping: technology

The hardening process consists in adding a dry mixture to the top layer of still not dried concrete. These materials stabilize the surface and minimize the risk of cracking.

The device of concrete floors with topping

This technology can be used only for reinforced, covered with mortar based on quality concrete grades, slabs. The reinforcing mixture is applied to fresh, but hard enough concrete. Often, the work can start as early as 5-8 hours after pouring. On the ground it is already possible to walk freely, but on the surface there are still traces of a depth of 3 to 5 cm.

How to create a strong concrete floor

On top of the surface, the topping mix is dispersed in an amount of 65% of the total volume. You can distribute it all over the surface either manually or with the help of various mechanical machines.

When the material is sufficiently saturated with moisture and becomes dark, the foundation is smoothed using trowels. Disks will rub the reinforcing agent into the solution until it is completely absorbed.

Then add the remaining mixture. This is done immediately, as long as there is still moisture on the floor surface. Then the floor is again carefully processed by the trowel. After about 2 hours, the grinding process begins with the use of grinding blades on the trowels. After that, topping for concrete floors will get a nice matte shine.

Further, the surface is covered with a layer of special impregnations and covered with a film to protect against cracking. Two days after full hardening, deformation joints are cut on the floor surface . After 19-28 days they are filled with a sealant.

The coating that will result as a result will have excellent characteristics. Often, such floors are very resistant to any wear. If repair of topping on concrete floors is required, then the application of polymer coatings, as well as polishing, is used for restoration.
