Theater of Drama (Saratov): history, repertoire, troupe

The theater of drama (Saratov) exists since the beginning of the 19th century. Many great actors worked on his stage. The repertoire consists both of performances on classical works, and of plays based on plays by contemporary Russian and foreign authors.

History of the theater

The theater of the drama named after Slonov (Saratov) was founded in 1803. The second half of the 19th century was marked by the fact that this city began to be considered a cultural, and also the theatrical capital of the Volga region. At the stage of the Saratov State Academic Drama Theater, such great actors worked: K.A. Varlamov, P.A. Strepetova, V.F. Komissarzhevskaya, M.G. Savina, A.P. Lensky, V.I. Kachalov, V.N. Davydov and many others. His repertoire for many years included performances exclusively on the plays of foreign and Russian classics. The theater has been named after Ivan Slonov since 2003. O. Yankovsky Festival

The theater of drama (Saratov) since 2011 has been holding a festival named after the outstanding actor Oleg Yankovsky. It hosts conferences, meetings with outstanding figures of art and culture, book presentations, anniversary evenings, documentary film premieres, screenings of performances, opening of various exhibitions. Special guests of the festival at different times were: Konstantin Raikin, Alexey Kravchenko, Inna Churikova, Filipp and Rostislav Yankovsky, E. Mironov, A. Sbruev, Maxim Matveev, Viktor Verzhbitsky, Marina Zudina and others.

Various troupes come to the festival in Saratov (Theater of Drama). The festival poster offers viewers a view of the productions: the Moscow Regional Youth Theater, the Moscow Art Theater named after A.P. Chekhov, Novokuybyshev Studio "Gran", Workshop of Peter Fomenko, "Micro" (Jerusalem), the School of Constantine Raikin, and others. The theater of drama (Saratov) acts not only as an organizer of the festival, but also as a participant.
