The medicinal preparation "Maltofer" (drops) is a remedy for combating the lack of iron in the human body, up to iron deficiency anemia. It is a stable polymaltose complex of iron (III) hydroxide that does not release iron ions in the digestive tract.

The application instruction attached to the preparation "Maltofer" (droplets) describes its pharmacological effects as follows. After taking the medicine, iron ions are released in the digestive tract and, getting into the blood, react with ferritin, which in the body serves as the intracellular iron depot. As a result, there is a gradual deposition of iron in the liver. Adsorption of ions of this metal depends on such factors as the dose of the drug and its initial content in the body. It is often prescribed for iron deficiency anemia in premature infants - one drop for each kilogram of weight, once a day, until the child reaches five months of age.

For one-year-old children suffering from this pathology, the dose increases to 10 drops, once a day.

Children older than a year and until they reach the age of twelve, the drug is prescribed, as a rule, once a day for 20 drops. For the same age category, but for the purpose of prevention - also once a day, but already 10 drops.

For adults, adolescents who have reached the age of twelve, nursing mothers who developed iron deficiency anemia, the dosage of this drug is 40 drops once a day, and for the prevention of such categories of patients should take once a day for 20 drops of the drug.

In the event that anemia associated with iron deficiency develops in pregnant women, the dosage increases to 80 drops once a day, and for prevention, up to 40 drops once a day. This medication should be taken for a fairly long time: 5 to 7 months, and pregnant women with iron deficiency to restore the reserves of this element in the blood, the preparation "Maltofer" (drops) recommends the use of the drug itself. With a preventive goal, this medication is prescribed for 1 to 2 months.

Side effects of the drug "Maltifer" (drops)

Instructions for use lists the following side effects: nausea, impaired digestion of food, vomiting. Sometimes there may be pain in the area of the stomach, although usually this medicine is transferred without any negative consequences for the human body. During treatment with this preparation, a darkening of the stool is often observed. This is caused by a high content of iron in them, and this symptom does not have a clinical significance.
