The new cathedral is the unification of the spiritual world

In order to find out why a new cathedral is needed in one place or another, it will not hurt to understand what it is all about. It's clear to everyone that this is a temple. But how does it differ from other similar structures? Let's clarify.

What it is

It turns out that the main distinguishing feature of such a structure is that it houses the most important place, that is, the department. This word originated from Latin and means "throne", "armchair". For whom is this important place intended? Of course, for the bishop.

The chair does not always stand in sight. It is removed and installed only when there is a special service. Not every cathedral can be cathedral. But if he was given this honorary title, then he will remain with him forever. And the bishop is not obliged to serve only in this church. He may decide to build another building, then in some city a new cathedral will appear.

A start

Such a temple, for example, will soon be erected in Barnaul. Now the main thing in Barnaul is the Intercession Cathedral. It was built in the 40s with the assignment of the status of the cathedral.

During his last visit to the Altai Territory Patriarch Kirill consecrated a place on which a new cathedral will soon be built. This site is located in the Oktyabrsky district, next to the Transmash Palace of Culture and the Sunny Wind Park. It is interesting that this place was not chosen immediately - initially there were three variants of sites where a new cathedral could be located in Barnaul.

It should be said that it will be dedicated to the Savior Not Made by Hands, and after the end of construction it will be called the Spassky Cathedral

Acquiring the Temple

On the site of construction now there is a stone with a copy of the tablet with an inscription, consecrated by Patriarch Kirill, mounted on it. The construction will be allocated funds from the local, as well as the regional and in addition to this, the federal budgets, as well as the personal funds of the ROC.

Soon a new cathedral will be erected in Chelyabinsk. It will bear the name of the Nativity of Christ. A spacious temple can accommodate three thousand parishioners. In the summer of 2016, Metropolitan Nikodim held a moleben in honor of the foundation of the church. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Chelyabinsk. After the metropolitan placed in the capsule a special memorable letter, it was walled in the eastern wall of the future cathedral.

The non-existent temple

And in one of the cities of Russia there is a relatively new cathedral, which is not. The fact is that it was built, and then destroyed. Currently, in its place is the square, and under the ground is the basement and foundation of the destroyed cathedral, which has survived to our days. To see it with your own eyes, you have to go to the city of Vyborg.

Earlier in this square, a monument to Stalin was erected on the site of the temple . And destroyed the cathedral in the middle of the 20th century. Although even the Leningrad Commission for the Protection of Monuments at the time considered it a valuable architectural object. And indeed it is. It was built in the 19th century. The reason for this was that the old church could not already absorb all the parishioners.

Therefore, under the project of Edward Dippel, a new cathedral was built, which was consecrated in 1893. The neo-Gothic cathedral now accommodated 1,800 parishioners. The city of Vyborg, undoubtedly, was decorated with a beautiful and majestic temple. The organ was installed in the cathedral with 4 registers. And already in 1929 it was replaced by a more powerful one, which became one of the largest in Northern Europe. He already had 76 registers.

From different sides

On the western side of the cathedral was a high bell tower. At the entrance to the cathedral from 1908 to 1940 there was a monument dedicated to Mikael Agricole, who translated the Bible into Finnish, was the Enlightener and the first bishop of Finland, who was a Lutheran.

The fate of this monument is interesting. During the Patriotic War, it was lost, but in 1993 the city was presented with a copy from the bust of Agricola, located in Turku. Now he is in the foyer of the library of Alvar Aalto. In the civil war, the dead residents of Vyborg were buried on the south side of the cathedral. In 1919 on this place a monument to the hero was erected, which was destroyed. But in its place now is a memorial plate, which was installed in 1993. And in the 40s at the walls of the temple were buried people who died in the Patriotic War. Although the cathedral itself was almost destroyed after the bombing. In the 1950s, what was left of the cathedral was completely disassembled.

Not only with us

The new cathedral recently opened in Paris. It is located on the quay of Branly. The plot of land for the construction of the temple was purchased back in 2010. Construction began in 2015, and finished in 2016. The Christian Trinity Cathedral symbolizes the proximity of the cultures of France and Russia. Earlier, the cathedral in Paris was a small temple. Premises for him served as a garage first, and then he moved to the 1st floor of the building. Now the new construction is not just a cathedral, but also a cultural and educational center.

Whatever the temple - Christian or Lutheran - this is the place of meeting man with God. On its territory, people gather to pray and find support from the higher powers. It is remarkable that in our time new cathedrals are being built. So, people are striving to find their own Temple.
