Exhibition "Titanic" (Afimall): photos from the exhibition, reviews

"Exhibition-sensation! "Titanic": find yourself on a legendary ship! "So the organizers of the event attracted the interested audience to their project. To find yourself on the Titanic is undoubtedly interesting. But the main thing is that it's absolutely safe now. So the crowds of people flocked to the "Afimall City": the exhibition "Titanic" did not leave anyone indifferent.

What was this ship like

"Titanic" is a tragically famous cruise liner. At the time of its launch, and it happened in 1911, it was the largest passenger ship in the world.

Tickets of the first class on this ship cost from 1100 to 49 000 dollars (in terms of the rate of 2013). To services of passengers there were restaurants, tennis courts, smoking salons, dancing platforms, halls for game in a squash. To one of the most expensive cabins adjoined a personal deck in length of 12 meters. The decoration of the decks, halls and rooms of the first class on the Titanic shone with gilding, velvet and valuable wood species. Cabins of the second and third classes were furnished much more modestly, and the cost of tickets was about 600 and 200 dollars (in terms, of course), respectively.

Before going down into the water in the press, the Titanic was called "unsinkable". Unfortunately, the media were not right.

Single flight

April 10, 1912 "Titanic" left the port of Southampton, to make a transatlantic flight. For four days the ship was on the road. On the night of April 14 to 15, 1912, the ship collided with an iceberg. Two hours and 40 minutes after that, the Titanic sank. This tragedy claimed the lives of 1495 people.

The catastrophe that occurred in 1912 with the Titanic can hardly be considered the most terrible in the history of mankind. For comparison: the German ship "Goya" sank in April 1945. It was torpedoed from a submarine belonging to the army of the Soviet Union. Then about seven thousand people died. If we take into account only the calamities that have occurred in peacetime, the death of the passenger ferry "Doña Paz" in 1987 can be considered the largest and most tragic. The vessel collided with an oil tanker. The number of victims of this tragedy is 4375 people.

Exhibition "Titanic" in "Afimoll"

Interest of the public to the history of this shipwreck was formed, probably due to the same film by James Cameron. Be that as it may, a large number of visitors gathered the Moscow exhibition "Titanic". Afimall (photos of the entertainment complex at the time of the event are presented in our material) is well known to the capital's public, and this event was another reason to visit it.

Organized the event Russian organizers with the assistance of their American colleagues. The original exposition is exhibited at the Franklin Institute in the USA. The concept of the Moscow event was not very different from the original one. So, how was it?

Exhibition "Titanic" (Afimall): dates

Some readers will still have to be frustrated: the event has already ended. It was held from February 14, 2014 to February 15 this year. In principle, probably for this year, most of those interested in the history of the Titanic still had time to inspect all the original artifacts and "visit" the ship. But the organizers of the event noted that when it became known that the exhibition "Titanic" (Afimall) would last until February 15, 2015 inclusive, many visitors decided not to miss the last chance. And the closing day of this large-scale event was marked with a real sold-out.

The concept of the exhibition

As already mentioned above, each visitor to Afimollah had the opportunity to find himself on a legendary ship, stroll along its decks, look into cabins and safely survive the crash. Yes, the iceberg was also present at this exhibition.

It is interesting that the exhibits were 342 items previously belonging to the passengers of the Titanic. You could touch history.

About roles and fates

At the entrance every visitor of the exhibition received a ticket. But not a simple scrap of paper with the name of the event, the time and cost of the visit. On each ticket the name of the passenger of the Titanic was listed, and some events with this person on the ship were described. In fact, every visitor to the event in Afimollah could have lived the fate of another - a fugitive or, vice versa, a hundred years ago a passenger of a legendary liner.

What did the story of a person look like on such a ticket? First, the name, age and occupation were indicated. Secondly, his story related to the Titanic, printed in English and Russian. For example, a ticket to the name of Rosa Amelia Icard contained the following information. "Age: 38 years. Occupation: maid. Amelia was the maid of Martha Stone, the wife of the president of the telephone company "Cincinnati Bell." It is known that during the trip on the "Titanic" Amelia often complained of shortcomings in the maintenance and behavior of personnel. " By the way, such complaints and comments from the mouth of the maid become quite understandable, given that this woman traveled with her mistress and companion first class.

After the ticket was issued, the guests of the exhibition went further and got acquainted with the exhibits and reconstruction of the crash.

Description of exposition

Walking on cabins, halls and decks, reconstructed for the exhibition, each visitor could get acquainted with the device and technical equipment of the ship, as well as learn how the way of life and pastime of passengers was organized. So, you could walk around the restaurant and see the exquisite table setting for first class travelers. It was possible to climb to the deck, which offers a view of the ocean and the endless starry sky. There was also a soft whiff of the night breeze.

In addition, the guests of the exhibition had the opportunity to compare the arrangement of cabins of the first, second and third classes. The luxury of expensive suites amazed with gilding, velvet and waving from everywhere welfare. Passengers of the second class lived in cabins, remotely resembling the decoration of modern hotel rooms: nothing superfluous, impersonal furniture and the same decoration of premises. The third class was located in cabins below the waterline. There were bunk beds here, and the noise of the water and the grinding of the ice did not subside for a minute. At the same time for tickets to the cabins of the third class was paid a cost equivalent to two average monthly wages of an ordinary American worker.

The next exhibition hall is the reconstruction of the wreck. The tragedy is painted every minute, so every visitor had the opportunity to put himself in the place of a person traveling on a ship, to survive his destiny.

The exhibition was closed by a hall with an "underwater" exposition, representing a sunken ship in all its grandeur, and a small room dedicated to the film of James Cameron.

An interesting feature of the exhibition - to find out about the fate of the passenger, whose name was indicated in the design on the ticket, could be in the last room. Here stood the stands with lists of survivors and disappeared people. No doubt, it seemed to many viewers very interesting. And now let's move on to the reviews about the event.

Exhibition "Titanic" (Afimall): reviews

How did the Muscovites and guests of the capital appreciate this event?

Most of the reviews were positive. This is not surprising, because the reconstruction of the appearance, the interior of the ship and its collapse was very convincing. At the same time, one can not but pay attention to the fact that very many exhibits were genuine, and this only heated the public's interest in the event.

In addition, many visitors noted the idea of the exhibition with the ticket, the experience of the fate of a real passenger of the Titanic. Search for your hero in the lists of survivors or dead, according to the guests of "Afimollah", was also very exciting.

But there were some negative points that the exhibition "Titanic" remembered to visitors. So, the grand staircase of the ship, so bright and beautifully shown in the eponymous film, turned out to be very small, and it was not possible to climb it. Some visitors noted that the atmosphere of the adventure ended immediately after the tickets were issued, and then the viewer remained sensed not by the participant of the events, but only by an outside observer.

Whatever it was, the event was over, and, on the assurances of the organizers and the majority of the guests, it was successful. Many will long remember what the event was - the exhibition "Titanic" ("Afimall"). Photos from the exhibition for a long time at the same time will remind guests about the experiences and impressions received.
