"The most drunken district in the world": actors, roles, plot

Hollywood loves to shoot gangster movies, especially when it comes to the times of the Great Depression and the Dry Law of the 1930s. There are bands failing, there are not very successful, but there are simply amazing. This is what turned out to be released in 2012 and presented at the Cannes Film Festival "The most drunk district in the world." Actors who performed in the film the main and secondary roles, almost all the eminent and starry, which could not but affect the quality of the movie. As often happens, it was the strong cast that made the next gangster tape really powerful.

The book and the film "The most drunk district in the world"

The crime drama came out in the US and in the rest of the world under the name "Lawless", but in Russia, as is often the case, the translation was adapted in a completely different way. Most likely, in the Russian version of the title there was a reference to Matt Bondurant's book "The Wetest District in the World" by which director John Hillcoat made his film. The plot of both the book, so, respectively, and the film is based on real events.

Matt Bondurant described the story of his grandfather and his brothers. The events described in the book did occur in the 30s in the south of the United States. In times of the Sukhoi law, the underground business of selling illegal alcohol, called bootlegging, was incredibly flourishing. Whiskey, for example, could be chased from anything. Actually, Bonduart's three brothers were bootleggers who tried to keep their business, despite confrontation with competitors and corrupt policemen.

Script writer Nick Cave tried to make the plot of the film as close to the book, so it is noticeable what a special atmosphere reigns in the tape "The most drunk district in the world". Actors are also laid out to the full, each character is precisely sustained in the spirit of his time.

Castling

The beginning of work on the film about the times of the Great Depression coincided with the world financial crisis in 2009, so the creators had to postpone the shooting of the picture "The most drunk district in the world". Actors that were announced at the beginning of the project, for one reason or another did not remain in the project. Planned participation of such stars as James Franco, Ryan Gosling, Emmy Adams and Scarlett Johansson, who could play the main character - Maggie Beauford. Of the originally announced composition, only Shia Labaf remained. However, in place of the celebrities who left the project came no less famous and talented actors.

Main character

The film "The most drunken district in the world" is a story about three brothers. Despite the fact that the hero of Shaii Labafa Jack is the younger brother, his story clearly stands in the foreground. At the beginning of the film, he is still a little naive young man, dreaming with the help of bootlegging to conquer the heart of the girl Bertha Minnix, played by a young and promising Mia Vasikovska, famous for her role in "Alice in Wonderland".

To the family business, Jack is rather irresponsible, without due seriousness, because this is only a way for him to get rich. Throughout history, it is noticeable how the character grows morally and changes, his consciousness breaks down. In the finals, he is already more serious and strong. Jack becomes a real representative of the family business. According to rumors, Labaf, in order to fully get used to the image, on shootings often used whiskey and could get so much that his partner Vasikovska even wanted to leave the project because of the inadequate behavior of the actor. For the same reason, the actor had a fight with screen brother Tom Hardy.

Who really is in charge?

The middle brother, Forrest Bondurant, was played by the popular and talented Tom Hardy, known for the films "Beginning" and "Warrior". In connection with the fact that simultaneously with the shooting he was preparing for the role in the "Dark Knight", for which he was intensively gaining muscle mass, in the film his character turned out to be much more powerful than the book one. But the character of the average Bondurant Hardy conveyed very accurately: pedantic, straightforward, gloomy, tough, able to solve all important issues. It was Forrest who was the real head of the family, the true leader. In town, everyone is afraid of him and respected everything, from the sheriff to the local gangster. Maggie Beauford had a huge influence on him, with the advent of which he, it may be said, came to life.

And the older brother Howard (performed by Jason Clark) often went into drinking bouts, and indeed, he was rather irresponsible, preferring to go with the flow. After having drunk alcohol, this lover liked to scratch his fists. But the game Clarke liked so much the producers who created the film "The most drunken district in the world", that they sent their recommendations about the actor to the director of the "Great Gatsby" Baz Luhrmann.

Other roles

However, not only such stars as Labaf, Hardy and Clarke, the criminal drama "The most drunken district in the world" boasts. Actors acting in secondary roles, also picked up at least no less venerable and talented. The ingenious Gary Oldman played the gangster Floyd Benner in his own unique manner. And the Australian actor Guy Pearce, known for the films "King says!" And "Remember", embodied on the screen the role of the agent Charles Raxy. And the role of Maggie went to actress Jessica Chestane, whose record includes such high-profile projects as "Servants" and "Interstellar." A friend of Jack, Cricket Pate, played Dane Dehaan.
