The main feat of Prometheus

Prometheus performed many feats for the people, but the events connected with Lartz Pandora deserve close attention. Myths often tell of victories over strange creatures. The feat of Prometheus is special, so everyone should know about it.

Pandora and her gift

At the behest of Zeus, the great master Hephaestus made a statue of a young girl. Aphrodite came and gave her beauty. There was Athena - and the girl became a wonderful needlewoman. Hermes flew in, and from him the beauty learned to flatter beautifully. She was gifted to the gods by everything she mastered, and so they called the girl Pandora.

The gods sent a young beauty to Prometheus to give him a gold chest, which later was called Pandora's Casket. But, not trusting Zeus, the titan refused the gift. Then Pandora went to see Epimetheus, who was brother of Prometheus. Seeing the lovely girl, Epimetheus forgot that he promised his brother not to take gifts from the gods. The mysterious casket of Pandora intrigued Epimetheus, and he quickly flung it open. From the conclusion all kinds of misfortunes broke out and spread throughout the earth. The girl was frightened and closed the casket. And one gift that warms a person in the hours of sadness and separation, did not manage to get out of the box. And this gift was hope.

Soon misfortunes and woes came to the earth. Diseases persecuted people, hunger and death did not give humanity peace. They sneaked up unnoticed, since Zeus did not allow them to talk, and took millions of victims with them. From these events, the famous feat of Prometheus began. Myth is studied even in the lessons of literature and history.

Prometheus and the Flood

The Lord of the Gods could not rest and thought about the Flood. Hearing this, Prometheus reported everything to his son Deucalion. In the ship built by Deucalion and his wife, Pyrrha were rescued and turned out to be the only ones on earth. At the home of Mother Prometheus, the couple began to collect stones and immediately tossed them behind their backs. They hit the ground and turned into men and women. It was a revival of the human race. Later, the couple had a son, Ellen, the future founder of Hellas. So the feat of Prometheus saved mankind, but the Gods were furious.

Punishment of Prometheus

With the help of faithful servants, Zeus sent the hero to the end of the world and at the rock he encased him in chains. Prometheus experienced wild pains. His mother's heart trembled. But he did not submit to Zeus. The gods carefully watched the sufferer, and people sympathized with their hero.

Almost everyone believed that the Thunderer had won. But only Prometheus knew one secret that the goddesses of fate whispered to him . The power of Zeus will soon end, since his son, born of the Thetis, will take the throne. But if Thetis becomes the wife of a mortal man, then their son will also be a hero, but not a rival of the thunderer.

Centuries passed. Prometheus, hungry and thirsty, was still in chains. But suddenly Zeus learned that the prisoner knows his future. Thunderbolt offered to exchange secrets for freedom, but Prometheus refused. He set his conditions: the release and recognition of punishment as unfair. A brief feat Prometheus was passed from mouth to mouth, therefore such myths have reached our days.

New tests of Prometheus

The ruler did not yield to Prometheus, only he subjected him to new sufferings. He placed for a while the unfortunate into the darkness, where the souls of the dead roam, and, back to the rock in the Caucasus. And he sent an eagle that he would peck out Prometheus's liver daily. For a night the wound healed, but in the morning everything was repeated again.

Heard loud tones of titanium, wept from sorrow and begged to tell the secret:

  • Nymphs-oceanides;
  • Brothers;
  • mother.

But the hero insisted on recognizing his innocence. The feat Prometheus did not admit, but for the truth he was willing to pay his own biscuits.

Liberation of Prometheus

Zeus could not stand it and admitted his defeat. He freed Prometheus and learned the secret.

Thetis became the wife of King Peleus. In the marriage they had a son Achilles, who became a great hero of the Trojan War. The feat of Prometheus is not the only one, many Titans went against the Gods, helping people.

Prometheus, in memory of his sufferings, left for himself one link of the chain with a piece of stone. And people, in order to remember the deed of titanium, began to wear rings with stones. Here is the feat of Prometheus. The summary of the myth is often recounted in literature lessons.
