The history of tourism: from ancient times to our days

The journey for the ancient man was literally any walk. Our ancestors were prompted by several reasons to wander: the desire to master new territories more profitable for housing, and, of course, curiosity, a thirst for knowledge of the world around us.

Subsequently, when money appeared and people were divided into different classes, categories were formed that were forced to constantly travel. The history of tourism development at the initial stage of its development was characterized by the following unique features:

- Development of trade. It was thanks to her that people satisfied their desire to know the world. For the merchants built taverns, taverns, we can say, the first hotel. The service was not up to par. In addition, such establishments had a reputation for dens.

- The development of diverse religions promoted travel in different eras, but especially in the Middle Ages. Thousands of pilgrims rushed to other countries to see the shrine. For them, hotels were created, they were fed, they were told and showed holy places. In general, they did everything that is used today to serve tourists.

- Development of art and culture. The history of tourism included several categories of tourists who Bo wanted to get acquainted with the sights and customs of another country, or they studied another language, got education abroad.

There were people who traveled to improve their health, to find a country with a more favorable climate for them.

The whole history of tourism is divided into 4 main stages:

  • From the birth of civilization to 1841 - the initial stage.
  • 1841 - 1914 years. - stage of the origin of organized tourism.
  • 1914 - 1945 - formation of the tourism industry.
  • 1945 to our time - the globalization of tourism.

Means of transport

The most popular was water transport. But in most cases they moved on animals or on foot.

The popularity of water transport reached its peak in the ancient period. Already in those days, ships could travel long distances. So, new states on the shores of the seas began to be founded.

In the 18-19th centuries the stagecoach became popular. But this vehicle had many shortcomings. It was tight, narrow, could not accommodate a large number of people.

In the era of the Enlightenment, the history of tourism began to include privileged classes, which, as a rule, traveled abroad to receive an education. Without this, the nobility could not begin its career.

The increase in the amount of free time also contributed to the development of tourism.

The modern stage

Today, people travel, mainly to relax, change the situation. The tourism industry is currently moving forward with leaps and bounds. New attractions are being created, hotels are being built. As in the past, not everyone can afford to travel.

The history of tourism has reached a new stage. Today some countries live at the expense of travelers. This is their almost the main source of income. For example, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Egypt.
