The growing population of Chechnya is a sign of the end of the military crisis

Russia has placed on its territory a huge number of autonomous republics. At the same time, in order to obtain information of a social and demographic nature throughout the Federation, measures are being taken to collect data for each region separately. Thus, the population of Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkaria and other autonomous regions is counted on the ground and is then entered in a single register. It is worth noting that the North Caucasus is a zone where the number of Russians decreases annually. And not only them. The demographic situation in Ingushetia is alarming: the mortality rate far exceeds the birth rate.

Factors that influenced the demographic situation

The population of Chechnya has undergone significant and powerful fluctuations due to military operations taking place on its territory. Migration, lack of quality medical care, premature mortality, low birth rate - these factors contained a terrible picture of the extinction of the nation. The life of this autonomous region up to the present moment includes two unpleasant and sad stages of its development (rather, not even development, but destruction): the First Chechen War and the Second Chechen War. Being a part of the USSR, the republic was a place of residence for a huge number of people, including not only the indigenous diaspora, but also Russians, Dagestanis, Ossetians and others.

Data of the USSR

The last Soviet census showed that the population of Chechnya at the end of the 80s (in 1989) was just over 1,270,000. At the same time, at that time, the autonomous republic included a small territory of Ingushetia and, consequently, its inhabitants (about 170 thousand). At that time, the composition of the living population was international. It included Russians, Chechens, Ingush, Ukrainians and Armenians. The structure of the composition was as follows:

National composition of the population
Nationality Number of people, thous.
Chechens 735
Russian 294
The Ingush 164
Armenians 15
Ukrainians 13
Other 50
Total 1270

Then military events began that caused rapid population migration away from this territory. Therefore, more truthful information about the demographic situation in the autonomous region began to appear only after the creation of regional government bodies - in 2003.

Current situation

According to the data provided by the Federal Statistics Service in 2006, the population of Chechnya at the time was about 1 million 160 thousand people. Stabilization of the situation on the territory of the republic was the impetus to remigration and the return of the inhabitants back to their native lands.

However, the question of reducing the level of infant mortality is still acute. The reason for this is primarily infectious diseases. To combat this problem, the government apparatus of the Federation is doing everything possible to provide the autonomous republic with quality medical care.

It is worth noting that the difference between the number of women and men living in the area is insignificant. At the same time, the number of young people is an order of magnitude higher than the number of young people. The female population of Chechnya is 53.6% of the total.

At present, the republic is growing: industry is being restored, the social sphere and infrastructure are expanding. It is worth noting that the development of rural areas is more intense. The reason for this are the destroyed cities and the lack of jobs in them. Therefore, it is not surprising that, in trying to feed their family, citizens leave for the countryside.

It should be noted that the pace of improving the demographic situation in the country is steadily gaining momentum. If we compare similar in location of the territory, only Dagestan can boast of such an increase in the number of inhabitants.

The population of Chechnya in 2013 is almost 1345 thousand people. Compared to the previous period, the increase was 1.6%. These data were published based on the information provided by the report of the Deputy Statistical Service of the Russian Federation in the Chechen Republic.
