Cervantes, Don Quixote: a summary of the first chapter

In the small town of Spain, there was already an elderly hidalgo, who was called Alonso Quijano. He loved to read knightly novels and, inspired by them, imagined himself a knight. Hidalgo decided to wander around the world, seek adventure and perform feats.

For himself, he chose the name Don Quixote, dressed in ancient armor, which he got from his ancestors, took a nag with a beautiful name Rosinant and went on his first trip. A squire for him was the local peasant Sancho Panza. The newfound Don Quixote managed to convince the latter of personal profit from future campaigns.

As his lady of the heart, Don Quixote chooses some beautiful Dulcinea, since she appeared to him in her dreams.

After one day, they drive up to the inn, in which they stop, taking him for an old castle. Then the "dedication" of Don Quixote to the knights happened. The innkeeper made it: he hung Don Quixote's head and slapped him on the back with a sword.

The next adventure was a meeting along the way with a herd of sheep. His brave knight took for the enemy's army, which he immediately began to destroy. For this, Don Quixote firmly flew from the shepherd.

Friends ask the faithful Sancho to tell Don Quixote that his beloved Dulcinea demands that he return home. But for a brave knight it's worthless to return without having accomplished all the feats, so Don Quixote refuses to turn to the house.

On the way, the barber and the priest meet the unfortunate lover of Cordayo and his companion Dorothea. Kordenyo had a bride of Lucinda, who was kidnapped by a certain Fernando. This same Fernando once seduced and threw Dorothea. And now two deceived decided to restore justice. They vowed to return their beloved, even if a duel is needed for this.

Friends of Don Quixote try to persuade Dorothea that she pretends to be a wandering Princess Mikomikonskaya. Allegedly she came to him with a request for help, as she had heard a lot about his courage and exploits.

On the way to the fictional Mikomikon, the whole company met Lucinda, who was about to hide in the monastery. She did not want to live in a world without Kordeno. And now the once separated lovers were reunited.

Dorothea managed to convince Don Quixote that without him young people would never meet again. And he finally returned home. There he was taken care of by a niece for a whole month with the housekeeper. And his mind began to clear up, the speeches were clear and reasonable. But it was only necessary to touch upon the subject of knighthood, how his madness came back with renewed vigor.
