The epic work is Quiet Flows the Don. Actors and roles

The film "Quiet Flows the Don" is a Soviet adaptation of Sholokhov's immortal novel. The picture was taken in 1958. Strangely enough, but for the film, a more genre of ballad was chosen, the vertex subtype of the composition of which - the long development of the plot action - is left behind the scenes, and the audience is shown only the culmination and the apogee. Perhaps, that's why most of the events of the second volume of the original were simply cut out. Nevertheless, Silent Don (1957) S. Gerasimov is still considered the best adaptation of the cult novel-epic M. Sholokhov.

Plot

Sholokhov's canonical novel, marked by the prestigious Nobel Prize, was among the most significant and striking works of world literature. He tells about the collapse of the foundations of the Cossacks. Six-hour three-part film is the most accurately conveys the original atmosphere of the source, narrating about the turning point in the history of Russia. When the centuries-old habitual way of life collapsed irreparably, tragically destinies broke down, moral values, human lives depreciated.

The passing epoch

In some bewilderment is the very fact of the appearance in Soviet Russia of such a work, because, to be honest, the author is uniquely on the side of Grigory Melekhov. The hero who became a hostage to the confluence of fateful circumstances, like many others, who fell under the ruthless millstones of history. Having written "Quiet Flows the Don", Sholokhov as if gathered people's lament in the outgoing era. In the picture, not only the peculiar way of life of the Cossacks (talk, decorations, traditions) is described in a fascinating and detailed manner, but also the character of the relationship between the heroes.

Brilliant cast - the merit of the director

Shooting of the drama "Quiet Flows the Don" (actors: Peter Glebov, Elina Bystritskaya , etc.) took place in real stanitsas near Rostov. It is worth noting an excellent selection of actors, their game was magnificent, and as performers of major and minor characters. Spectators-contemporaries unequivocally believed the masters of acting. The talented director Gerasimov succeeded absolutely everything: starting with a specific Cossack dialect and ending with emotional scenes such as climax (returning to Melekhov's homestead).

Leading character

Despite a decent number of characters, the film "Quiet Flows the Don" has the dominant image - Grigory Melekhov, whose role was played by a rather talented, although not all known actor Peter Glebov. Glebov was already somewhat old for this role, but he was able to feel and convey to the viewer the whole palette of emotions, the character of his hero, to tell about his tragic share of the "truth-seeker" and the wanderer. He is at the very beginning of the story at a crossroads, because he falls in love with someone else's wife - Aksinya Astakhov. Unable to cope with the overwhelming feelings, the hero is ready to leave not only his young wife Natalia, but also her parents and her father's house. Also worth noting is the performer of the role of Pantelei Prokofic (father Grigory) - actor Daniil Ilchenko, thanks to which the picture has a small sense of humor.

Cossacks

The painting "Quiet Flows the Don", the actors and characters of which instantly acquired popular love and recognition, presented the world with bright female characters:

The image of the fatal Aksinya was performed by Elina Bystritskaya. Even during the casting, she frankly admitted to the director that she had long wanted to play this role - a beautiful, strong-willed and strong Cossack woman, ready without hesitation to do everything for the sake of her lover.

Desperate Natalia was played by Zinaida Kirienko, who brilliantly managed to pass the second female image - wife Grigory, suffering, faithful and loving. Separate praise deserves an important element in the painting "Quiet Flows the Don" (1957) - the complete authenticity of recreating the texture of the Cossacks of that era - another time, other types. The other actors played their roles well at the proper level.

Necessary shortness

Much of the literary source was not included in the film "Quiet Flows the Don," Sholokhov described in more detail the events of the First World War, the pre-war life, the existence of the protagonist in the gang, etc. In any case, it is impossible even to imagine that someone could film the novel Quiet Don (actors, script, structure, cinema atmosphere) is better than S. Gerasimov did. Because, watching his creation, the spectator not only evaluates the actors' performance and the efforts of the director, he truly lives the drama of the heroes. The work of the entire team working on the project is doomed to a good and long glory, as it is done on conscience and with the soul. Even now, despite the venerable age and specific specificity, the film "Quiet Flows the Don" (the actors of which were named above) looks quite vivid. It remains to once again express the gratitude to the performers and creators for their highly artistic creation, which can be safely called great, like the novel of Mikhail Sholokhov.
