The drug "Pertussin". Instructions

The medicine "Pertussin", the instruction to the drug informs about it, is a combined remedy with antitussive, expectorant and phlegm-diluting action.

The medication is available in the form of syrup in containers (bottles) of fifty, one hundred and one hundred and twenty-five milliliters.

One hundred grams of this remedy contains 12 grams of herbal extract of thyme and one gram of potassium bromide. The first component significantly improves the secretory effect of the bronchial glands and reduces the viscosity of phlegm, which is why it acquires a liquid consistency and is much easier to clear the throat. In addition, this extract gives a great deal of activity to the cilia of ciliated epithelium in the bronchi, and this, in turn, promotes the most rapid and complete disposal of sputum, located in the trachea-bronchial tree.

Potassium bromide helps to reduce the excitability of the central nervous system, resulting in a reduced cough (because the corresponding reflex is suppressed).

Auxiliary substances: sugar syrup and ethyl alcohol.

The drug "Pertussin" (syrup), the instruction for use contains this information, is indicated for use in the following cases: diseases of the lungs and respiratory tract characterized by the presence of viscous, difficult to separate sputum; Bronchitis (acute and chronic form); Chronic lung disease (obstructive); pharyngitis; pneumonia; laryngitis; bronchial asthma; pulmonary tuberculosis; Tracheobronchitis; tracheitis; whooping cough; flu; Cystic fibrosis; Acute respiratory-viral diseases. The drug is also used in the treatment of wet cough.

The drug "Pertussin", the instruction informs, is contraindicated for use with individual hypersensitivity to its components. It is also not recommended for therapeutic use in the presence of heart failure, the decompensatory stage, and with diseases of the kidneys and liver. The drug "Pertussin" during pregnancy and lactation should not be taken.

Side effects of the drug:

- Such forms of allergic reactions as itching, hives, rashes, swelling (angioedema), and others.

- Disorders in the digestive system - heartburn, nausea.

The drug "Pertussin", the instruction describes this in detail, is recommended in the following doses:

- Babies who have not reached the age of two, the syrup is prescribed 2.5 milliliters three times a day.

- For children from two to six years, the drug is shown to take five milliliters 3 times a day.

- For children from six to twelve, the recommended amount of medication is five to ten milliliters three times during the day.

- Children who have reached the age of twelve, as well as adults are shown to take this drug in the amount of ten to fifteen milliliters per day.

Notes

The drug "Pertussin", the instruction emphasizes, should not be taken simultaneously with pharmaceutical agents that block the cough reflex. Among them: "Kodelak", "Libexin", "Stoptussin", "Terpinkod", "Sinekod", used to get rid of dry cough. Failure to comply with this recommendation is fraught with stagnation of sputum in the bronchial tree, which leads to the multiplication of pathogens of various infections. As a consequence - an aggravation of the inflammatory process.

The optimal option is the combined use of the above medicines. In the daytime, for example, tablets "Mukaltin" or syrup "Bromgeksin" (expectorants) are used, and preparations against cough are applied once before bed, which will ensure a full rest at night.

The symptom of an overdose of the medication in question is nausea.

Shelf life of the drug is four years. Keep it recommended in a cool dry place, protected from direct sunlight.
