The drug 'Oftagel'. Instructions

The drug "Oftagel" (eye drops) is used in ophthalmology with the syndrome of "dry eyes". This drug is often prescribed to people whose activities are related to working at the computer. Drops "Oftagel" have a mild effect.

The active ingredient is a carbomer. This substance is a high molecular weight carboxyvinylpolymer. The active component is able to interact with the mucin (mucous layer) on the epithelium of the cornea. The carbomer enhances the viscosity of the tear. The active ingredient also promotes the formation of a protective film on the surface of the cornea, thickens the aqueous and mucous layer. It should be noted here that the carbomer does not have a specific effect upon contact with epithelial cells. This is due to its biological inactivity.

The active substance has sufficiently pronounced adhesive properties to the membranes of the epithelial cells and the mucous layer of the tear film. Thickening of the film is a favorable factor. This is especially important in conditions accompanied by a change in the properties of mucin (for colds, fungal, bacterial or inflammatory diseases of the eyes). Thick layer provides protection in cases of erosions and injuries of the conjunctiva and cornea. Long-term interaction of the film and the cornea helps improve the production of tear fluid.

The "Oftagel" medication is recommended for diseases complicated by the "dry eye" syndrome, which is manifested by fatigue and sensation of foreign body in the eyes, burning, itching, compensatory lacrimation. The indications include Sjogren's disease , Stevens-Johnson syndrome , insufficiency of lacrimation, irritation, dry keratoconjunctivitis. The "Oftagel" medication is also recommended for diseases of the eyelids that provoke insufficient contact of the cornea with a tear. The drug is prescribed as a restorative therapy after laser or surgical intervention on the cornea.

The drug is instilled drop by drop from one to four times during the day (in accordance with the severity of symptoms).

Wash hands with soap before use.

Before instillation, head back (slightly), pull the lower eyelid, digging into the lower conjunctival sac (between the eye and the lower eyelid) gel. It is not recommended to touch the tip of the pipette to the eyelid or eye. After the instillation, the vial of the drug should be closed.

The drug "Oftagel" instruction does not allow for use in hypersensitivity.

The use of the drug can provoke some side reactions. In particular, the instruction refers to local irritation, a burning sensation, and blurring of vision to negative manifestations after the use of Oftagel. As practice shows, these manifestations are short-lived.

When using contact lenses, they should be removed before instillation. You can install them no sooner than thirty minutes after instillation.

When prescribing several ophthalmic drugs at the same time, the drug "Oftagel" should be dripped last. In this case, the interval between the use of funds is not less than fifteen minutes.

A bottle with a medicine must be used by only one person.

Due to the fact that the drug "Oftagel" can cause a temporary blurred vision, do not immediately after the instillation to begin to perform work that requires clarity of vision (transport management, for example).

Since adequate studies of the safety of the use of drugs by women during pregnancy and lactation have not been conducted, the drug is used in these cases only on the advice of a doctor.
