Than isoniazid for dogs is dangerous

Mankind has suffered for a long time from the causative agent of tuberculosis, as evidenced by human skeletons found by archaeologists, deformed by the tuberculosis process. They knew about tuberculosis even in the countries of the Ancient World. For many centuries, this disease has claimed hundreds of thousands of human lives.

In the last century, antituberculosis drugs were synthesized that changed the prognosis of this disease. Thanks to the use of these drugs, it became possible not only to prolong the life of a patient with tuberculosis, but also to achieve a complete cure. Tuberculosis has ceased to be a fatal disease.

One of the most effective anti-TB drugs is isoniazid. This drug acts bactericidal against the tuberculosis pathogen and is used not only for treatment, but also for specific prevention of tuberculosis. But isoniazid is quite toxic, has many contraindications to the use and side effects, with an overdose causes severe neurologic complications. Despite all this, isoniazid is in free sale, it can be easily bought in any pharmacy without a prescription.

In recent years, isoniazid has adopted the so-called dohanters. They have entrusted themselves with a kind of mission to rid cities of stray dogs. Dognhans use isoniazid for dogs to this end. The drug is added to the bait, having eaten which, the dog is subjected to severe poisoning leading to the death of the animal. To poison the dog isoniazidom was for them a kind of terrible game. They tell in social networks about their victims, competing among themselves in their numbers.

Isoniazid for dogs is very toxic. It starts to act a short time after getting into the animal's body. The victim quickly develops muscle paralysis, including respiratory, a large amount of foam is released from the mouth. The dog dies in terrible agony for several hours.

What to do if you used isoniazid for dogs

Specific antidote isoniazid is pyridoxine, also known as vitamin B6. If suspected of poisoning the dog with isoniazid, it is necessary to inject the drug intramuscularly immediately before contacting a vet. A medium-sized dog is sufficient to administer two ampoules. Pyridoxine is completely safe and does not have toxic effects even in large doses. Even if it is excluded that wasoniazid was used for dogs, there will be no harm from vitamin B6.

To empty the stomach of the remains of isoniazid, it is necessary to induce vomiting in the dog. After vomiting, give the animal adsorbents, diuretics and, if possible, make them drink as much liquid as possible (preferably milk, diluted in half with water). Having rendered emergency care, the dog must be urgently delivered to the veterinarian, since detoxification therapy with intravenous drip administration will be necessary.

Undoubtedly, stray animals can not be considered an adornment of cities. Large flocks of wild, hungry dogs can be dangerous to humans. But the solution to this difficult problem should be carried out by more humane methods. The poisoning of dogs with isoniazid caused great protest in the world. In civilized countries, planned sterilization of stray animals is carried out, shelters are created. This requires considerable expenditures of material resources, which are not available in city budgets.

But any problem can be solved by common efforts. It is necessary to unite animal lovers, attract sponsors to create shelters and pay for sterilization operations. It is worth remembering the classic words that have become winged : "We are responsible for those who have tamed."
