The zoo is very different from the usual format - the cage is only a brown bear, and the rest of its inhabitants live on the fenced meadows and hills of the reserve.

No less interesting is a walk to the trout farm located in the village of Verkhnaya Teberda. Here are bred two species of trout and several other species of fish. Those who wish can taste a variety of fish dishes prepared by experienced Caucasian chefs right in front of the visitors.

Excursions

The city of Teberda is the starting point for many hiking trails running through the most famous and beautiful places with which Karachaevo-Cherkessia is rich.

Reserve

The Teberda resort, whose attractions are described above, is located in the homonymous biosphere reserve. Filled with pure air, shrouded in sunlight, permeated with the murmur of rivers and streams, it invariably year after year attracts travelers to their possessions. More than 1,200 species of vascular plants, about 500 species of mushrooms, about 750 mosses and lichens, and about 100 species of terrestrial algae grow on the territory of this highland reserve. 45 species of mammals run through the meadows and hills of the reserve, over 220 species of birds fly to the sky, and numerous fish, reptiles and amphibians swim in rivers and lakes.

One of the main highlights of the Teberda Reserve is its numerous lakes, most of which are located at an altitude of more than 2000 meters above sea level. The Baduk lakes are the most famous and beautiful natural reservoirs of this region. Like most of the lakes of Karachaevo-Cherkessia, they are between 200 and 1000 years old and appeared as a result of melting of glaciers. From the snowy peaks along steep mountain slopes many rivers flow down, forming huge rapids and mighty waterfalls.

Saints Temple

Fans of historical and architectural attractions will like to visit the Saints historical and architectural complex, which includes the temple itself and the construction of the nunnery. The Saints temple, built by the Alans in the 10th century, is one of the oldest in the Russian Federation.

This architectural complex is located in the mountains above the village of Nizhne Teberda, the sights have been perfectly preserved to our time, despite its more than venerable age. The temple was built in the style of the cross-domed architecture of limestone in place of the ancient pagan sanctuary, its height is about 10 meters, the remains of frescoes dating from the 11th century are well preserved on the walls. Near the church in the 19th century was built a female Orthodox monastery, which, unfortunately, was destroyed in the Soviet years. Later, the nuns reconstructed part of the monastery and the temple, slightly distorting, however, its original form.

Shoan temple

The Shoan temple is another Christian shrine that Karachaevo-Cherkessia conceals in its mountains. Built in the 10th century in the Byzantine tradition, it retained on its walls numerous inscriptions of various epochs in Russian, Armenian, Georgian, Arabic, Greek, the remains of the most beautiful decorative paintings, the tribal tamgas of the peoples of the North Caucasus. Unfortunately, most of these artifacts that have come down to us through the centuries can soon disappear forever, falling from the walls.

Jamagat Narzan

Rest in Teberda involves walks to the natural attractions in the vicinity of the resort. One of the most popular tourist routes is a trip to the Jamagat Narzan - mineral springs, located in the valley of the Goraly-Kol River. There are two ways to the source, but most tourist groups use one that runs along the route of the former irrigation ditch to the valley of the Jamagat River.

The route of the excursion is simple, it is accessible to everyone. A leisurely hike through the fields and forests will be quite tireless, filled with the singing of birds and the murmur of the river, the warm sun and ringing air. All sorts of shades of green valleys and trees, bright colors of flowers and berries, grazing horses and cows, a crown of mountain peaks on the horizon and a high clear sky create a sensation of an unreal and fabulous picture where the travelers came completely by accident, passing through an invisible veil between worlds.

Sources are at an altitude of 1,813 meters above sea level. The water in them is slightly mineralized, pure, slightly aerated and unusually tasty. Legends are about her healing and juvenile properties.

Shumka River and Waterfall

For one more interesting route, the starting point is Teberda. Sights and legends will be opened to travelers who went on a campaign to the Shumka waterfall.

The route of the excursion goes first along the road to Dombai, then along the bridge over the Shumku river - a small tributary of Teberda, falling with a noise down the rocks, behind the bridge of the trail passes along the river between the century-old fir and beech of mixed forest. At the rocky shore it is necessary to pass to the right bank of Shumka, hence the steeper ascent begins. Further the road requires attention and caution, because On the way there are big boulders. To the right of the boulders is the steep Rock of Love, about which there is a sad and beautiful legend telling about the tragic fate of two loving people. From here the waterfall is not yet visible, but its noise is already audible, increasing with every meter. And before the admiring views of the travelers, the Shumka Waterfall opens. Powerful streams of water are torn from the stone ledge and with great noise, audible all around, fall from a 12-meter height. Further there is no way - it is cut off by almost vertical rocks covered with lichen and moss. Here you can just sit by the waterfall, breathing in the water dust raised by a cloud over the turbulent stream, and plant the virgin nature of the gorge, gathering strength to move on the return journey.

Dombay

Fans can ride on the ski slopes can go to Dombai, which is located 20 kilometers from the city called Teberda. How to get there? The quickest and easiest way is not a taxi, but you can get there by bus. Despite some shortcomings (queues on the ski lifts and a small number of trails) Dombai is considered to be the pearl of the Caucasus. Magnificent landscapes, hospitable inhabitants and an atmosphere of tranquility and coziness invariably attract numerous guests to the resort.

Mountain and beautiful Teberda! The sights of this wonderful land, created by nature itself for many centuries and millennia, amaze with power and splendor. Clean air, healing springs, snowy peaks and blossoming valleys are invariable components of a wonderful holiday in this famous Caucasian resort.
