Throughout the existence of mankind he was accompanied by art. During this time, it changed its direction and current many times, acquiring new forms and styles. What are the main styles in art?

As early as the 10th century, an art style called Romanesque appeared on the territory of Eastern, Central and Western Europe. In this style there are signs of the architecture of Rome, which differ in their rationality and monumental designs, multi-figured sculptures. This created the impression of power and earthiness.

In place of the Romanesque style in the XIII century came the Gothic. He continued the development of art in Western and Central Europe. This style differed in its elongated forms, as if they were trying to rise. Many Catholic churches and churches with elements of Gothic style can be seen now.

After the Gothic style in Italy in the XVI century the Baroque style was born. He was able to embody completely new ideas about the vastness, unity and diversity of the world. Its main difference is decorative compositions depicting themes from mythology and religion.

After the baroque came the classicism. He originated in France in the XVII century. This style is especially widely used in painting and literature. At the same time, such genres of literature as ode, comedy, fables and tragedy appeared. There were also new styles in painting. For the first time, the concepts of portrait, still life and landscape began to be delineated. Classicism was based on patriotism and service to the state. This period also left its imprint on the development of architecture. In the buildings of this time, you can observe logical layouts, clear geometric shapes and an original combination of smooth walls with restrained decor.

One of the trends of classicism in the 13th century was rococo. The art of this style was based on fiction, decorative theatrics, refinement, sophistication and intimate experiences. No dramas and tragedies, only light emotions, light colors and a lot of love.

In the 17th century, classicism replaced a style called sentimentalism. He differed in revealing the inner world and individualizing the images.

After sentimentalism, the time for the rule of Romanticism has come. The subjects of this style were unusual and fantasy. The human soul was studied in detail, which was equated with the universe and the cosmos.

After romanticism, it's time for realism. He appeared in the 20-30 years of the XIX century. All the flights of the romantic style descended to earth and became more banal and vital.

Then naturalism followed. He was distinguished by his precise reflection of the surrounding. To all incomprehensible phenomena, their laws were attributed, which explained the nature of things. The essence of the human soul was studied.

Since the late nineteenth century, the government took control of modernism. This style was considered the art of an unexplored future. Striving for everything new, he opened many new directions. Some of them are still very popular in art.

During the twentieth century, numerous new styles appeared in art. The main ones were Modernism, Symbolism, Impressionism, Surrealism, Cubism, Futurism, Dadaism, Abstractionism, Postmodernism.

In addition to the existence of the main above-mentioned styles of fine arts, there were other subspecies, such as pointillism, fauvism, primitivism, sezanizm, academicism, vorticism, fantasy, transavantgarde, neo-realism, materialism, social avant-gardism, social realism. There were also such styles in art as conceptualism, hyperrealism, minimalism, pop art, op-art, tashism, neoplasticism, metaphysical painting and many others.

Modern creativity does not stand still. There are new styles in art, new trends and trends. Continue to develop and existing styles, acquiring new shades and shapes.
