Skylights in a wooden house: installation and types

Each house has windows and an entrance door. All these openings in the finished wooden structure slightly weaken it. To strengthen the walls, to protect the door and window blocks from the destructive effect of shrinkage processes, the windows are made in a wooden house. They are wooden boxes, which are installed in the door or window opening. They are also called casing.

Why do I need a window?

  • The windows in the wooden house do not allow the logs to move horizontally and relative to the vertical axis in the opening. This absolutely does not prevent the shrinkage of the log frame vertically.
  • It removes the load above the opening from the upper logs, which helps to prevent various deformations of the frame and door blocks.
  • Protects window frames and glass from pressure due to the impact of shrinkage of logs. In this case, the frames remain intact, and the window as it should be will function.
  • Protects against the appearance of gaps and cracks between the frame and logs.
  • It makes the wall more stable, so it is recommended to make casing in houses made of lumber, which stood for 2 years.
  • The windows in the wooden house can become a necessary element of the construction, as well as a decorative component. For example, if you choose an interesting texture and color, everyone can stylize this element of the house to your liking.

Types of windows by type of manufacture

The window is made of dry wood, so it needs impregnation (painting). This can be done both by the construction team at the installation site and at the production base itself. For those who do not know how to install a window in a wooden house, a photo from construction publications will show how to do it right. These products come in several forms.

  1. Solid pine - round wood sawed and receive a gun carriage 100 mm thick, then dried. Next, the blanks are made of different lengths and processed to obtain the desired profile. The window of this species is divided into rough, clean and exclusive.
  2. Set-glue - this kind is made of edged wood with a moisture content of 9%. All the knots and resin pockets of the tree are cut out, and after the workpiece is spliced in width and length by microships. A ready-made window is polished and processed on machine tools, and then glued.
  3. Combined - risers and apices are made from solid pine, and the window sill is made by a set-glue method.

Installation and construction of the window

The windows in the wooden house consist of three elements: a threshold, a sidewall and a top. For each opening, a separate casing is produced, and for its installation, screws, nails and other elements are not required. For insulation of the house lay a heater. A properly installed window in a wooden house is very important. Prices for it will depend on the size. Therefore, it is very important to accurately measure all the casing that will be installed.

To properly install the casing, you must first cut the window opening (the optimal distance from the window sill to the floor is 80-90 cm), after which a groove 50 x 50 mm for the bar is prepared. Next, a bar is installed and laminatin is stacked. Then install the windowsill, sidewalls and top. So the window is ready, now you can install windows. This work can be done by ourselves.
