Seaport of Olya

The sea port of Olya is located in the Liman region on the shore of one of the largest branches of the Volga - Bakhtemir. The distance from the city of Astrakhan is about one hundred and twenty kilometers. Construction of the port Olya began in the nineties of the twentieth century, after the government made an official decision on the revival of the Russian fleet on the Caspian Sea.

A few years later, in 1997, this port began to handle more than 400 tons of various cargoes for each calendar year. A special access road was provided for the delivery of goods, which made it possible to significantly reduce the costs of delivery and handling. During the construction of the port, the road was connected to the R-216 and P-215 routes.

Since 2006, the port has started to handle more than two million tons of the most diverse cargo. According to forecasts of specialists, by 2020 the port of Olya will be able to handle more than ten million tons of cargo annually.

Main line of business

The port purposefully specializes in the transportation of various types of cargo. Transportation of materials is carried out all year round. In addition, freight and transportation are handled by vehicles and trains. Due to this, the goods can be delivered to the Caspian Sea from any point of the Russian Federation in the shortest possible time.

The main transportation is carried out to the Caspian countries (Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Iran), as well as to India and Pakistan. The most popular destinations for cargo delivery are Baku, Aktau, Atyrau and Anzali. A vessel of any tonnage can approach the Astrakhan port of Olya during the stormy weather. In addition, the port territory has a repair shop and a supply base. To date, there are nine berths, the depth of which is up to five meters. In the port, foreign vessels can also be accepted, since a customs check works here.

Transport

The port of Olya is connected with the federal highway Astrakhan-Makhachkala, through which daily passenger transportation is carried out. In the early twentieth century, the port established a ferry service, which functioned properly until 2012. Then it was closed for reconstruction.

In 2001, the port of Olya in Astrakhan began to carry out freight and passenger transportation along the railway line. For the construction of railways were allocated short terms in order to ensure a permanent supply. With funding, management has not dragged out.

In the summer of 2014, the grand opening of the Yandyki branch-the port of Olya-took place. However, after the construction was completed, the station was unable to cope with the flow of cargo, which made the operation of the Astrakhan knot difficult. The average downtime of the formulations varies within 13-15 days from the date of receipt.

The most economical ways to deliver cargo through the port of Olya are road and rail transport. The latter are implemented along the federal highway Astrakhan - Makhachkala. Railway transport carries out transportation from Yandyki station and is escorted to the port railway station. The formation of the relief is a key factor for the supply of goods to the Caspian Sea. In ancient times, this area was flooded, but gradually the water retreated, which led to the formation of the plain. One of the main features of the terrain are Barrow's mounds.

Soil and climate

The territory of the seaport consists mainly of semi-desert soil. For the cultivation of rural products, it will be necessary to additionally fertilize the soil with chernozem. In addition, the soil in the port has a sandy structure in some places.

In the area of the port Olya, the predominantly temperate continental climate prevails. In warmer times you can observe a drought. On the territory there are constant winds, which is typical for this area. Because of the constant winds, there is accumulation of dust and sand. The arid period begins in July and lasts until mid-September, due to the small amount of precipitation.

Autumn does not leave behind a large amount of precipitation. Winter is moderate, but the first frosts happen in early November. The climate in the port territory is often unstable, because of which severe frosts can be sharply replaced by a thaw and vice versa.

Today the sea port of Olya continues to improve the delivery lines of cargo, thereby obtaining large contracts both from the Russian Federation and from many foreign countries. Purchased new equipment and transport, which allows you to deliver materials in a short time, spending a minimum of funds. Every day the turnover of goods that passes through the port is increasing and will soon reach five million tons per year. These are very optimistic forecasts, so we can safely say that the port of Olya has a great future.
