SCS (carbine): technical specifications. Carbon SCS: photos

Carbines are called shortened and lightweight automatic rifles. In addition, the name "carbine" is also used in the army, hunting and sports environment. The main requirements that were put forward to the carbines are lightness, compactness and the preservation of high combat qualities.

One of the most famous Soviet carbines is the SC-7 carbine 7 62 caliber. About what role he played in the development of Soviet small arms, as well as the tactical and technical characteristics and features of its use will be described in this article.

History of SCS creation

This weapon was developed in parallel with the Kalashnikov assault rifle under a specially made intermediate cartridge of 7.62 mm caliber of the 1943 model. Based on the previous model - AKS-22, which was developed at the beginning of the Second World War. The need for new weapons was very acute. At that time the main model of the rifle was the famous "Mosin-Nagan" model of 1898. Also, in smaller quantities, self-loading SVT and ABC rifles were used. But the peculiarity was that, although there were a lot of these models, they did not satisfy both the command and the rank-and-file soldiers. For example, ABC and SVT, although they were very good, but required very careful care, which in the conditions of military operations was not always possible to implement.

Mosin's rifle was, of course, reliable and unpretentious, but also did not fit in many ways. In such deplorable conditions, the command of the army needed unpretentious reliable weapons that would be able to shoot at a farther distance than the PPSh and PPS, while the capacity of the store was to exceed the standard 5 rounds, as in the same Mosin rifle. So there was a SCS - a carbine, the technical characteristics of which in many respects exceeded the performance of the Kalashnikov assault rifle.

The developer of the legendary weapon

Responsibility for the development of such weapons fell on the shoulders of the designer Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov.

This well-known gunsmith was the developer of such models of small arms as ABC, PPS, PTRS, in addition, he collaborated with Fedorov and Degtyarev during his formation as a designer of rifle systems. Prior to this, Simonov worked at the Kovrov machine-gun factory, then, climbing the career ladder, became a student of the Academy of Industry. The first of its models, which were used by the army, was the ABC-36 (Simonov's automatic rifle about 1936). It was the first automatic rifle adopted by the Red Army after Fyodorov's assault rifle.

As a result of painstaking work, the designer presented his new model to the government in 1949, approximately at the same time, when the Kalashnikov assault rifle was also fired. At the same time, the Simonov rifle was approved for armament of the Red Army. For his work, the designer was awarded the honorary title of Hero of Socialist Labor, and he was awarded various government prizes and orders.

Initially, the design of this weapon used a special needle bayonet, which was later replaced by a knife-like folding type. In addition, during the release, some changes were made to the design of the individual carabiner units. And although the beginning of the concept was laid back in 1943, problems with debugging allowed to show it only in 1949.

International weapons

SCS managed to fight in many armed conflicts after the end of the Great Patriotic War. It was successfully used by the partisans of the Vietcong during the Vietnam War, it was also used by the army of North Korea, it was seen in Cuba, in Africa, Laos, Namibia. In many ways this popularity is due to the high combat performance of weapons, as well as the fact that it was massively licensed by various countries of the Soviet bloc. In China, the weapon was called "type 56" and was adapted to mount optical sights, and also had an adapted magazine for 30 rounds, similar to the store from AK. A carbine was also produced in the GDR, Yugoslavia, Egypt, Albania. In some armies of the world they are still armed with separate units.

Carbine SKS - tactical and technical characteristics

In an uncharged condition, the SCS weighs three kilos of seven hundred and fifty grams. Has a sufficiently high rate of fire - 40 rds. In minutes. The gas system allows firing in the single-fire mode only. The aiming distance is 1000 meters.

It is very easy to learn a carbine. He has enough "prikladistosti", well balanced and balanced. The trunk is longer than the AK-47, which allows you to achieve higher levels of accuracy. The spread at hits at a distance of 800 m is approximately 290-380 mm.

Device and operation

Automation of the weapon functions by a way of tapping of powder gas through an aperture in the channel of a trunk. The bore of the barrel is locked with the shutter curved downwards. The stem of the bolt moves under the action of a spring-loaded pusher and a piston with a rod. They do not take part in the further operation, which ensures a smooth operation of the automation. When the stem is retracted, the rear part of the bolt is lifted and disconnected from the receiver, and when the stem is closed, it locks the barrel bore. The return mechanism is placed in the stem of the shutter, in a special channel. Simultaneously, the stem is also the loading handle.

Shock mechanism - hammer, with a helical-type battle spring. It is made on the basis of the trigger brace and is created as a single mechanism. The fuse is a flasher, located behind the trigger. To prevent a shot, the self-timer is applied when the barrel channel is unlocked.

The carbine has a store for 10 cartridges, an all-in-one type. For the convenience of the magazine's equipment, the bolt has grooves for the clip. The open sector sight is marked up to a distance of 1000 meters, the fly is placed on the stand at the muzzle, and the aiming pad is in the middle of the carbine. The weapon has a wooden box with a protrusion of pistol type for the palm, the barrel is not removable, is firmly connected to the gas pipe.

Prevalence in the world and post-war life

After SCS morally obsolete, it began to be used as a service weapon in various arms (air defense, for example). In Ukraine, it is still widely used as a weapon of guarding mouths or honor guard, regardless of the kind of troops. Now the carbine has also been widely used as a hunting weapon. He is a fairly budget option, fully justifies the money spent on it. Hunting with a carbine SCS is really very convenient and can end successfully.

Significant popularity of weapons and received in the US. Yes, America actively buys out carbines of different years of release. At the moment, about 1,500,000 units of this weapon are in the United States. American designers are enthusiastic, thanks to which many modifications of this carbine appeared. In particular, USA Magazine has developed to it a detachable magazine for 30 rounds, Liman - sports dioptrichesky sight. Some parts of the weapon undergo a number of modifications in order to increase the resistance to corrosion. Lodges made of plastic with a pistol grip, a retractable butt are also available, there is the possibility of installing bipods.

The use of a carbine for hunting

From the point of view of hunting weapons, the SCS carbine technical characteristics are quite good. Of course, compared to the now existing cartridges of the 1943 bullet for combat missions are not particularly suitable, but they can play a big role for amateurs and professionals in hunting. SCS is ideal for hunting wolves, ungulates, and any beast weighing up to 100 kg. Bullet cartridge remains effective at a distance of 150 - 200 meters, while aimed shooting (using optics or open sight) can lead up to 300 meters.

Of course, this weapon can only give a lot of trophies to a skillful hunter. The scatter during shooting is insignificant, a small weight and a convenient form allow to hit the target even when shooting offhand, and the use of special hunting cartridges increases the chance of hitting the target from one shot repeatedly.

Some features of using a carbine

When operating this weapon, it is worth remembering that SCS-45 is a carbine designed for an ordinary Soviet soldier. Weapons were developed strictly for those requirements for combat qualities and TTX, which were relevant at that time. Although its production was massive, but still the level of production remained very high. The weapon is not devoid of a certain degree of grace and has its charm.

Of course, the design of the carbine is typical for the 30-ies of the twentieth century and contains many obsolete solutions, such as charging with a clip. However, its fighting qualities can be called high even by modern standards. Of course, hunting modifications of the carbine differ from combat ones. They do not have a bayonet bracket, and also marking on the receiver. The same notes also contain the passport of the SCS hunting carbine. By the way, another reason for the popularity of this carbine is the possibility of free purchase under a standard license for possession of hunting weapons. The price is quite acceptable - up to 10 thousand rubles.

Of course, there are plenty of competitors on the market. First of all, these are popular hunting carbines "Saiga" and "Vepr", but they are more expensive, and do not carry any historical value, although they are more practical.

Any hunter should remember that SCS is a carbine, the technical characteristics of which are executed at the level of combat ones, and the quality and reliability are checked by more than one generation of soldiers and hunters.
