Olympiad-2022: where and how will it take place

The world sporting event - the Winter Olympics of 2022 - is already a subject of heated discussion. The main question that worries so many people of the planet: "Where will this grandiose action take place and what plans does the winner have?"

Olympic Games-2022

The Olympics of 2022 will be the twenty-fourth in the history of the Winter Olympic Games. It will be held from 4.02 to 20.02.2022. The question of where it is best to conduct it, was discussed for a long time.

Candidates for the Olympics-2022

In 2012, the IOC announced the beginning of accepting applications for candidates for the Olympics in 2022. One of the first who declared about the desire to host the Winter Olympic Games was the capital of Kazakhstan. The city of Almaty used to apply for the 2014 Olympics, then there were seven candidates, but the Kazakh megapolis dropped out of the contest before the finals, and the city of Sochi won and successfully hosted the Olympic Games. The capital of China later also applied for the Olympics.

In addition to Beijing and Almaty, they nominated their candidatures, but later withdrew from the vote:

1. Munich. In November, the Munich population did not support the idea of holding the Olympic Games in 2022, and the German side refused to participate.

2. Davos. The inhabitants of Switzerland also decided not to file an application as a result of the referendum.

3. Barcelona at the last moment decided that it would not be able to host the Olympic Games-2022.

4. Stockholm. The city decided that Sweden is not ready to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2022.

5. Krakow. In May 2014, Poland held a vote on the holding of the Olympics. The result is a refusal to apply.

6. Lviv. Ukraine decided to run for the Olympics in 2026, due to political and economic instability in the country.

7. Oslo. The Norwegian capital became one of the contenders for the finals, but in October 2014 withdrew the application, because the government of the kingdom announced the unwillingness to provide financial guarantees.

The voting process

As a result, the circle of applicants for holding was reduced to a minimum, and only the Chinese and Kazakh capitals remained. Such that only 2 applicants came to the vote, there was not a long time ago, so the IOC, so that this situation does not happen again, decided to take a number of measures in the future:

  • Optimize total costs;
  • Make the application process more stringent;
  • Split costs for those that will be implemented directly to ensure the competition, and those that will go to the development of urban infrastructure;
  • To ensure a careful attitude to natural resources;
  • To fight for the "purity" of athletes.

Before the start of voting, Beijing and Almaty presented short films highlighting all the advantages and disadvantages of holding the Olympics. Then began the electronic voting. But at the most inopportune moment they announced that the system had failed, and a second vote began, as a result of which it became known that the Olympics will be held in the capital of China in 2022. At the same time, the gap in the votes was minimal - 44 against 40 votes.

Beijing or Almaty

Where will the Olympics-2022 be in Beijing or in the capital of Kazakhstan? At the end of July 2015, on the vote of the International Olympic Committee in Kuala Lumpur, it became known that the Winter Olympics will be held in the capital of the Celestial Empire - the city of Beijing.

The most interesting is that the capital of China will be the first in the history of the existence of the Olympic Games, which will host the summer and then the winter Olympics.

Plans of Beijing to host the Olympic Games in 2022

Where the Olympics-2022 will be held - is already known, but Beijing's readiness to host the Olympic Games is interesting.

In the bid for the Winter Olympic Games, the capital of the Celestial Empire announced the preparation of 12 sports facilities, of which 6 are actually existing sports facilities for today, and another 6 will be built from scratch in the near future. The Olympics-2022 will be held not only in Beijing, but also in the Yanqing and Zhangzakou zones.

The Yanqing Zone is located on the outskirts of Beijing near the Great Wall of China and has a convenient traffic junction and rich tourist resources, high class resorts.

Beijing is an international metropolis, offers a wide variety of accommodation: star hotels with world-class rating, stylish and comfortable budget hotels, exquisite Chinese traditional yards and resorts of different styles, so the capital of the Celestial Empire meets the requirements of the IOC.

Olympics-2022, the advantages of holding in Beijing

After Almaty was not selected for the 2014 Olympics, it not only developed all its strengths, but also eliminated shortcomings. For example, the lack of experience in organizing large-scale competitions. Recently, the Kazakh capital not only held the Asian Winter Games, but also did it very successfully, in addition, hosted the World Hockey Championship and other smaller sporting events. In 2017, the Kazakh capital will host the World Winter Universiade.

So, if the Olympics-2022 will be held in Beijing, then the capital of the PRC has its own perspectives and advantages:

  • Improved urban infrastructure;
  • 6 already finished and 3 under construction sports facilities;
  • The presence of a high-speed railroad that connects the competition zones;
  • The Olympic villages will be located close to each other according to plan;
  • Beijing is going to further develop the ecological way of building structures and sports facilities;
  • The existence of many sports and residential facilities for the location of all participants and fans;
  • Experience in holding the 2008 Olympics.

Winter Olympics-2022 in Beijing: the existing risks

Along with many advantages, there are significant shortcomings and risks that can not be eliminated:

  • Use of artificial snow cover;
  • Jumping from a springboard according to plan will occur in the Zhangzakou zone, and to implement this, it is necessary to resettle about 400 city residents;
  • The problem of air pollution is gaining increasing importance in the region;
  • The provision of snow cover will require a substantial diversion of water resources from reservoirs;
  • Sports facilities in the Yanqin zone will be located next to the national nature reserve.
