Russian Drama Theater (Izhevsk): history, repertoire, troupe

The Russian Drama Theater (Izhevsk), whose history began in the first half of the 20th century, now has repertoires of plays on classical works and modern plays. There are performances for young spectators.

History

The Russian Drama Theater (Izhevsk) was opened in 1935. The first performance was staged according to the play "The Aristocrats". The premiere was greeted with stormy applause. The audience was delighted with the production, the scenery and the play of the actors. The theater in the city was opened by order of the Council of People's Commissars of the UASSR. The troupe was assembled from masters of the scene of provincial cities, from artists of Moscow theaters and from the youth who had just graduated from college. In 1941 the building of the theater burned down. We did not have time to start its restoration, because this year the war began. The troupe of the Izhevsk drama remained without a room, without decorations, without costumes. It was impossible to play the plays, but the artists could not do it without creativity either. In a short time they prepared concerts and performed with them before the wounded defenders of the Motherland and before those who forged the Victory in the rear. At the same time, they began to prepare new performances: "Battalion goes to the West", "Twelfth Night", "Cyrano de Bergerac", "Invasion" and "Invisible Lady". In 1946 the Russian Drama Theater (Izhevsk) celebrated a housewarming party. For him was built a new building with a hall, designed for 760 spectators. In 1961 the Izhevsk drama was given the name of the writer V. Korolenko. In 2011, the theater moved to a new building, which previously belonged to the Palace of Culture "Izhmash".
