The Volkov Theater (Yaroslavl) began its creative career in the 18th century. It is named after its founder. The theater was opened as a merchant's son Fyodor Grigorievich Volkov. He assembled the first troupe, which included people of different professions, not related to art.

The first performances were held in a leather barn. Soon, Fedor built a special room for his theater. F. Volkov invested in art not only the soul, but also great material means. On his money, decorations were made and costumes were sewed. Soon the amateur troupe was invited to the capital, where she stayed to live and work.

With the departure from Yaroslavl Fyodor Grigorievich and his troupe, the cultural life in the city has not subsided. The development of art in 1777, the governor of the region, AP Melgunov, took up the job. He strongly encouraged the development of art in the city.

In the late 19th century, the Russian Academic Drama Theater. F. Volkova became famous throughout Russia and was recognized as one of the best in the country. On his stage, many great artists made their debut. Among them Leonid Sobinov. This world famous opera tenor began his creative career as a mere extras and grew up to the soloist of the Imperial Theaters. The Yaroslavl stage nurtured a large number of talents, which later decorated the leading Moscow and St. Petersburg stage.

The year 1911 became significant for the theater. Firstly, a new building was built for him with an auditorium for a thousand seats. Secondly, he was named Fedor Volkov.

Yaroslavl Drama became the first provincial theater, where the work of A. Tolstoy "Peter I" was staged. The premiere was attended by the author himself, who appreciated the work of the actors who played the main roles.

During the Second World War many actors left for the front. At that harsh time in the repertoire were works that corresponded to the time. It was a military drama.

In the 50s the company was replenished with young staff - graduates of the capital's universities.

Since 1996 to the present day the main director of the theater is Vladimir Bogolepov.

Building

In this article there is a photo on which you can see what the FG Volkov Theater looks like today.

The building in which it is located was built in 1911. Interiors and facades were created by the architect Nikolai Spirin, who won the competition, which jury was a commission from Moscow, headed by F. Shekhtel.

N. Spirin created the building, unprecedented in its scale for the province. It was built for two years. Even at the grand opening of the new building, V. Nemirovich-Danchenko himself was present.

The first room in which the theater lived at the end of the 19th century was built by the architect Pankov, at the same place where the new one is now located. But at the beginning of the 20th century, there was a need to build a new building for rehearsals and theater shows, as the old one was decaying much.

In 2012-2015, the room underwent a large-scale reconstruction. The mechanics of the scene was improved. The theater was equipped with the latest technology. The stage tablet was covered with a tree of special varieties and is very durable.

Also during the renovation the facade was restored. The foundation was protected against water, since under the building there is an underground river.

The light and sound equipment was updated on both stages.

The interior of the foyer on the first floor of the building was radically changed. Now it is decorated with stucco molding. Lights and beautiful doors were installed. The foyer of the second floor has also undergone changes. His ceiling was painted. On the floor is a new parquet floor.

During the reconstruction, the building was brought exactly to the kind that was conceived by its architect N. Spirin. But, due to the fact that the First World War began, he could not realize all the plans.

During the overhaul, the buffet was completely transformed. In it, sound equipment was installed and now it is a full-fledged stage site.
