Roof Ondulin - Features and installation technology

Ondulin is a building material made of cellulose, treated with thermosetting resins under high temperature conditions and impregnated with bitumen. The coating has moisture resistance and strength, is suitable for roofing works of most types of roofs, and a special colorful coating on the front side of the sheets provides additional protection against mechanical effects of the environment. Unlike analogues, Ondulin is resistant to mold and rot, which ensures its unique composition. He is not afraid of alkalis, acids, gasoline and other aggressive environments. And at the same time, the sheets are environmentally safe, due to the lack of asbestos. But, like any roofing material, Ondulin has a number of features, and for reliability and complete certainty, the installation of the roof must be carried out in accordance with the prescribed technology. The technology is quite simple and understandable and is described in the instruction, which is necessarily attached to the set of sheets. However, there are rules that you should know in advance.

So, first of all, it is necessary to take care of the dredger, to which the sheets of Ondulina will be attached. The material is perfectly suited for roofs with a slope of 12-14 °, in this case the pitch of the trolley is 45 cm. If the slope is more than 15 °, the step of the trolley can be increased to 60 cm. For horizontal roofs, the coating is not recommended. The cladding is made of wooden blocks, which are installed on an old roof or a specially prepared new roof. The material is laid down with longitudinal waves from top to bottom so that water and snow do not stay on the roof. The overlap between adjacent sheets is 1-2 waves, depending on the angle of the roof. The overlap of each successive series is 15-20 cm. During the installation of the roof, one should adhere to certain rules:

1. Installation work on the installation of Ondulin should be carried out in the interval -5 to +30 degrees Celsius. This is due to the fact that at other temperatures the material somewhat loses its properties and can be damaged during operation.

2. When the roof is laid, it becomes necessary to stand on the already mounted material. It is recommended to use soft shoes, but only on the crests of the wave, and not on the grooves.

3. As a fastener Ondulina need to use special roofing nails with a calculation of 20 pieces per 1 sheet, only in this case the manufacturer can guarantee that the roof will remain in place even with strong gusts of wind.

4. When fastening the sheets to the crate, the nails are driven exclusively into the top of the wave. What will give an additional guarantee that your roof will not leak at the place of attachment, because The water will roll down.

5. Ondulina is characterized by softness and flexibility, however, during installation it is not necessary to stretch sheets against each other, since subsequently it can cause deformation of the entire coating. It is necessary to monitor the linearity of joints, both in horizontal and vertical directions.

6. Before carrying out laying, you should carefully study the attached instructions, calculate and cut the sheets according to the required dimensions.

Mounting the roof of Ondulin does not require special skills and a high level of professionalism, which allows you to equip a beautiful, solid, practical and durable roof yourself. And it's very convenient since you do not have to spend extra money on a roofing specialist.
