Roles and actors of "MESH"

Films and series, ever shot about the war, usually do not cause positive emotions. However, this does not apply to the MESH tape. The television series tells about a small military field hospital, its employees and patients. And although the plot directly affects the war time, events in it are presented in a genre of comedy unusual for such films. More about the actors and the organizers of the filming process we will speak next.

Brief information about the show

"MESH" - a unique American television series, based on the work of Richard Hooker, which was called "MESH: A novel about three army doctors." The creators of the project themselves speak of it as a weekly half-hour comedy, as about the ridiculous situations that underlie each of the plots.

Despite the fact that the first series of films came out 44 years ago, the series has not lost its popularity so far. Moreover, it still maintains quite high ratings for the old multi-part film. Did the audience attract the audience or the perfectly selected actors ("MESH")? What is the secret? And what interested the audience this series?

The plot and the meaning of the series

In the favorite series, we are talking about the mobile military hospital No. 4077, located in South Korea. The time described in the multi-episode tape is the Korean War, which began in June 1950 and ended in July 1953.

Characters about which the series "MESH" tells (actors here perfectly got accustomed to the image), are ordinary military physicians, who daily save lives of people. However, they, like all other residents of Gyeonggi Province, are prone to depression.

Therefore, most of them try not to succumb to panic moods, and periodically divert themselves from their complex and serious work with the help of humor. Let some say that this is a black humor, but it helps the heroes avoid troubles and is an excellent recharge for surgeons and other doctors.

The film "Devil's service in the hospital MESH": actors and roles (main part)

"MESH" is a touching and amusing show with an almost constant composition of performers and characters. It has its own stars, with which the spectator meets in all 11 seasons of the multi-series film. Among them four stand out clearly:

  • Benjamin Pearce.
  • Francis Mulcahy.
  • Max Klinger.
  • Margaret Khaligan.

Their following actors ("MESH") played:

  • Alan Alda.
  • George Morgan (played in the pilot series of the project) and William Christopher (played the role of Francis in the remaining series).
  • Loretta Sweet.
  • Jamie Farr.

Ah, this unpredictable Benjamin Pierce

Benjamin Pierce - this is one of the brightest and charismatic characters of the series. Virtually all the plot lines are associated with the participation of this responsive chief surgeon. According to the scenario, this character, nicknamed the Hawk (or Hawkeye), went to the service on call.

However, throughout the series, he makes it clear that military affairs and he are two incompatible things. For example, he does not carry weapons and very rarely wears a uniform, and also familiarly refers to the highest ranked personalities. And it is for this very reason that Pierce regularly gets into alterations. In turn, his leprosy is overlooked by his superiors, as the young doctor's pampering and unpredictability compensates for his professional activities. In addition, there is simply no one to replace him.

About the artist Alan Alde, actors ("MESH") and his other colleagues on the set spoke like a positive person with a great sense of humor.

The sacred debt of Francis Mulcahy

Francis Mulcahy is a remarkable character who truly believes in God. This first lieutenant, and later the captain at first appears sporadically, but later he becomes the second after Yastreb the main hero, suffering from gambling. Francis is a soft and weak person.

About these people, as a rule, they say that they are able to adapt to any situation. For example, depending on the circumstances, Mulcahi may at one point try on the cassock of a Catholic priest and immediately change into a righteous rabbi. Here they are - talented and versatile actors ("MESH").

However, despite all his shortcomings, Francis is a fine friend, ready to always help the needy. So, in one of the series he has to perform a complicated operation with a penknife, and he easily copes with this task.

Army tricks of Max Klinger

Max Klinger is a funny character who, by all means, tries, as it is now fashionable to say, "to slip from service". For this, for example, first a corporal, and later a sergeant regularly changes into women's clothing. In parallel, the nurse and the irreplaceable nurse do not forget about his masculine character: he smokes and swears like a shoemaker, flirts with women and often forgets to shave. It is noteworthy that the birthplace of this character, as well as the actor who played it, is the city of Toledo in Ohio. As you can see, in the series "MESH" the actors and the roles they perform have much in common with their real life.

The fragile and charming Margaret Khaligan

Margaret Khaligan is a charming nurse nicknamed "Hot Sponges". This fragile and miniature lady was born in the family of a colonel. That is why the chief nurse literally worships military affairs and dreams of a dizzying career in the army. In general, Margaret - a positive character who is able to empathize and love. She is endowed with excellent external data, intelligence and has an excellent sense of humor.

Other characters of the series and their participation in the plot

As we already said, in the series "MESH", also known as "Devilish service in the hospital MESH", the cast was almost permanent. However, the film also involved other characters that appeared only in certain seasons. For example, one such is Wayne Rogers, who was lucky enough to play one of the key characters in the first three seasons.

His hero is a captain and an experienced civilian surgeon John McIntyre, nicknamed Trapper. It was he who was the best friend of Benjamin Pierce, who regularly joked, played poker and drank pretty much.

In the first three seasons, actor McLean Stephenson, who played the head of the hospital "MESH" Henry Blake, was also seen. His character - a man of weak character and soft, because of which many subordinates simply ignored his orders. However, in responsible moments, this lieutenant-colonel is always ready to show an uncharacteristic firmness of character. After the end of his military service Henry plans to fly to his homeland, but dies in an airplane, which shoot down enemy fighters over the ocean.

The series also removes and Larry Linville - specially invited actor for the role of temporary hospital commander and a good surgeon Frank Burns. According to the idea of the writers, it was Frank, nicknamed the Chorus, who became one of the main negative characters who played from the first to the fifth season. His character is a formidable and arrogant man with strict military restraint. He is married, but it does not stop him from twisting a promising novel with Margaret Khaligan. By the way, Miss "Hot sponges" has a huge influence on him.

During the filming from the 1st to the 8th season, the hospital "MESH" became a home and for an actor like Gary Bergoff. It is interesting that this forty-year-old man had to play the young shy boy Walter Eugene, who is in the military hospital as a clerk, secretary of the commander, postman and bugler. This young man could always solve any questions instead of his commander, for example, when he was drunk, predicted the events a couple of minutes before they happened, for which he acquired the nickname Radar.

The series also involved other actors, such as Mike Farrell, Harry Morgan, David Ogden Stiers, etc. They all did a great job and left their mark on this wonderful film.
