RKGM wire: description and characteristics

Experienced electricians know that it is not possible to connect conventional power cables to the output terminals of electrical equipment having a voltage not exceeding 0.66 kV, otherwise there may be an overload in the electrical network. To avoid this, it is recommended to use cables and wires for special purposes. Today, the attention of professional electricians and amateurs is represented by special products known as the RKGM wire. The article contains information on its technical characteristics and scope of use.

The meaning of the abbreviation RKGM

The wire is denoted by the abbreviation, which stands for:

  • The presence of the letter "R" indicates that the wire is equipped with rubber insulation.
  • "K" - insulation refers to the silicone type.
  • "G" - the product is not armored and is characterized by high flexibility.
  • "M" - in the manufacture of outer braid wire, glass fiber is used, impregnated with a mixture of heat-resistant silicone varnish and enamel.

Since at the beginning of the abbreviation there is no letter "A" denoting the presence of aluminum in the product, it can be concluded that RCMM is a wire entirely made of copper veins. Since this special-purpose product is represented by a wide range of modifications having its own section, when buying, it is necessary to pay attention to both alphabetic and digital marking. For example, wire RKGM 2 5 is a cable with a section of 25 mm.kv. If necessary, you can choose a cable of almost any cross-section. Their range varies from 0.75 to 120 mm.kv.

Structure

The RKGM wire consists of the following elements:

  • An outer braid containing fiberglass yarns.
  • Silicone rubber, which serves as the main insulation layer. This rubber is the main feature of the RKGM wires. High popularity among consumers of special-purpose cables is explained by the fact that in ordinary wires at a temperature of already 120 degrees, rubber loses its insulating properties and becomes a conductor, which can be dangerous for a person. RKGM cables in this regard are very advantageous, since their silicone rubber does not allow current to flow even at 200 degrees.
  • A multiwire copper conductor performing the function of a current-carrying part. It refers to the fifth class of flexibility. There are six classes in total. The higher it is, the more flexible the cable has. This indicates that the current-carrying part is not a single unit, but is a bundle of separate wires twisted together. This design allows the cable to bend repeatedly. Mechanical and electrical properties are not lost at all.

Wire characteristics of RCMM

  • Cables are indispensable in a variety of situations. The big demand for them is explained by their ability to work effectively at temperatures from -60 to +180.
  • Cables are not subject to combustion. In the event that RKGM wires are used in rooms with a very high temperature, resulting in the melting of insulation, toxic substances are not distinguished at all. If the insulation layer is still burned, the special cable will still perform its task for some time due to the silicon dioxide remaining on it. It should be borne in mind that the layer of dioxide is very fragile and breaks down at the slightest touch.
  • The maximum voltage that the RKGM wires can withstand is 660 volts.

Where is the cable used?

Special purpose wires are used:

  • For installation of an electrical network in the street (with a moderate climate).
  • In the chemical industry. This is possible due to a special rubber insulation, not exposed to chemicals and ultraviolet radiation. Also, these cables are resistant to mold and fungus.
  • With the help of the RCMM, special windings can be made for variable machines and powerful electrical installations.

The characteristics of the RKGM special-purpose wire allow it to be widely used in the arrangement of power grids in sunnah and bathhouses.
